On June 4th, the SCEDC hosted the first Teacher Bootcamp 2.0! The participating teachers, many of whom had previously attended our bootcamps, expressed a strong interest in learning about additional businesses within the county. Their feedback highlighted the value of these experiences in enhancing their ability to prepare students for the workforce after high school.

We want to sincerely thank First Choice Packaging and Standard Technologies for hosting our teachers, and a special thanks to North Point Educational Service Center for their invaluable support in organizing this program.

New Grant Opportunity for Small Business in Sandusky County

JobsOhio now includes the Small Business Grant as part of its core incentive offerings. This program is designed to support qualified communities that may benefit from investments and job creation on a smaller scale compared to communities with higher levels of corporate investment. The program also aims to address the challenges that businesses owned by eligible populations may face when expanding. All businesses located in Sandusky County are eligible for the grant!

*Grant decisions are based on various project factors, such as company location, ownership, jobs created and/or retained, and fixed asset investment for the project. The support is intended for small to medium-sized companies.

Fremont City Schools Superintendent Retires

Fremont's long-serving superintendent, Jon Detwiler, is retiring after serving many years and many different roles at Fremont City Schools. Reflecting on his tenure, Detwiler expressed pride in guiding the district through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing the completion of over $100 million worth of construction projects, including five new buildings.

The district will welcome a familiar face as the new Superintendent: Denice Hirt. This appointment ensures continuity in leadership as the community transitions into this new chapter.

Small Biz Blitz

One of the SCEDC's goals is to empower small businesses by providing them with the necessary resources to succeed and thrive in today's competitive market. As part of our commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, we conduct visits for our "Small Biz Blitz" program. This program is designed to offer an abbreviated version of our Business Retention and Expansion visits to small businesses in our community.

During the "Small Biz Blitz" stops, our team will spend approximately 15 minutes with you and your team to discuss your business, answer any questions you may have, and take a group picture. We will then share this information on our social media pages, allowing our followers to learn more about your business and the amazing work that you do.

Participation in the "Small Biz Blitz" program is completely free of charge, and we would be honored to visit your business in 2024.
