The Intersection of
Substance Use & LGBTQIA+ Community

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual or allied (LGBTQIA+) communities are reported to have higher incidences of substance misuse.

This virtual workshop will provide an opportunity to:
  • Define the basic LGBTQIA+ terminology including: gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation
  • Discuss best practices for increasing inclusiveness within health encounters in the substance use space for LGBTQIA+ youth
  • Understand the risk factors related to the increased prevalence for substance use disorders and dependence in the LGBTQIA+ community
