Jekyll Island Master Plan Update:
The JIA wants to hear from you!

The update of the Jekyll Island Master Plan is in its second phase. The Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) is asking you, the citizen owners of Jekyll Island State Park, to complete a survey regarding the future of Jekyll Island and how well the island is currently functioning.

Please take advantage of the “Comments” section at the end of the survey to elaborate on the issues most important to you.

Since 2007, IPJI has played a vital role in giving visitor input to the JIA. Last year the input you provided helped shape Jekyll Island's Conservation Plan for the better. We know that it may be difficult for you to realize the impact your participation has had in the past, but it has been significant and important not only to the protection of Jekyll’s environment but to maintaining the character of the island that we all cherish. The Master Plan is the guiding document for the direction the island will take in the next decade. Your participation in the Master Plan Survey is vital.

Share the survey with others − the more input the better!
The survey runs until June 30th.
A public meeting on the Master Plan Update will be held on June 16th at the
Jekyll Island Convention Center from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
BACKGROUND:
The Jekyll Island Master Plan, as described in the 2014 Master Plan, is “a critical tool for managing the balance of limited commercial and residential development, the conservation of the Island’s pristine and delicate ecosystem, and preservation of the Island’s natural and cultural resources.”

It is important to note that since the 2014 Master Plan was adopted by the state legislature, the island has added approximately 220 residential units and 240 hotel rooms, bringing the number of hotel rooms to its all-time high. In the planning stage is development on the old Buccaneer hotel property and on the Jekyll Island Golf Course Complex. Since the 2018 Jekyll Island Carrying Capacity and Infrastructure Study indicated that Jekyll will be at its functional capacity by 2025 even without further development, the importance of the updated Master Plan as the guiding document for Jekyll’s future cannot be overstated.
Visit the Important Documents link on the JIA website for information related
to the Master Plan and other important topics.
