First and foremost, thank you for volunteering your time and talents to help keep our JIPC facilities beautiful!
We have a great service opportunity on April 4th, Saturday, from 9:30 to 11:30! We will perform our annual cleaning of the gravestones and all you need to bring is work gloves and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Due to the chemicals used, this service opportunity is for people 10 years and older.
Ruby Jenkins will be leading the crew, so if you have any questions please text her at (843) 810-8931.
If you are able to help us, please let us know by contacting one of the three listed below either by phone or by email:
- Ruby Jenkins - (843) 810-8931

Johns Island Presbyterian Church
Congregational Care Committee Presents:
A Fishable Feast
Kirk Deeter, Author/Fly Fisherman
Talks About His Latest Book
at the JIPC Pavilion
Saturday, April 18th
2 - 4 p.m.
ALL ARE WELCOME
From crystal-chalk streams to saltwater flats, untamed jungles, and cascading mountain streams, this collection literally offers up the “tastes” of the most epic fly-fishing adventures in the world.
Fly fishing is ultimately less about catching fish and more about the experience - uniquely beautiful places and the people you meet along the way. A hugely important part of destination fishing is the post-angling gathering - often centered around local dishes. The food is what distinguishes these special places, and food is the medium through which fond memories are brought back to life.
Each of the 20 destinations in this book features stunning original photos and a unique story about a fishing adventure. And each chapter is capped off with a few recipes - ranging from appetizers to main courses, drinks, and desserts - that exude the flavors of these special places, including fresh salmon and wild mushroom tarts from Normandy, France; baked halibut with wild berry glaze from Alaska; fish tacos and shrimp guacamole from Baja California, Mexico; and much more.
Kirk is the editor-in-chief of TROUT magazine and the “vice president of angling” for Trout Unlimited. He’s also the editor of Angling Trade and a founding partner of Flylab.fish. He is the author of several books. To learn more, click here.
Whether a world-traveling angler, someone dreaming of taking a first trip, or an armchair angler or traveler, all will appreciate hearing about the complete joy of fly fishing portrayed in this presentation. This will be an interesting, entertaining, educational event for all ages.
Proceeds from any books sold at the JIPC event will be donated to the JIPC Mission and Outreach Committee for disbursement. Please call the church office to learn more and reserve your space at the picnic table! (843) 559-9380

"Secrets from These Pew Boxes"
Five Ancestral Families of Johns Island Presbyterian Church Share
316 Years of Untold Stories
Thanks to our historian Tina Marshall and Ancestral Family member Linda Legare Berry for conducting the first of our "Secrets from These Pew Boxes" historic tours last Saturday, March 14th. Twenty-five people enjoyed learning about Johns Island Presbyterian Church's intriguing past ... and wonderful opportunities today!
As part of our nation's 250th anniversary celebrations this year, the SC250 Charleston committee has many activities planned. Johns Island Presbyterian Church is one of 20 church congregations in Charleston and the immediate area that were established during the colonial period or Revolutionary Era, and we have been asked to participate! We have formed a committee co-moderated by Tyler Jones and Nancy Ritchie to organize our activities. To start, we are hosting tours and "chats" during the next several months.
Mark Your Calendars:
Saturday, May 30, 11 a.m. - Chat and Tour
Saturday, June 13, 11 a.m. - Tour
Sunday, September 13 - Chat and Tour as Part of JIPC Homecoming
Saturday, November 14, 1 p.m. - Tour
Five ladies from our ancestral families, Linda Berry, Nancy Carter, Margaret Seabrook, Alice Meise, and Nancy Ann Ritchie, will be led in discussion by Charleston County Sheriff Carl Ritchie, another of our ancestral members.
