JL Landscape Committee Beautifies
the South Entry
|
|
Near the South Entry, a park-like setting, the Landscape committee has recently completed improvements on the corner of Barrow Island Bridge. The new landscape features majestic oaks surrounded by Asian Jasmine and Leopard plants. New landscape lighting has enhanced the beauty of this area in the evening hours. The simple design presents a clean and neat appearance to anyone traveling in this area.

Improvements to the Common Area
near the Central Gate
For some time, Security has answered alerts at the Central Gate area from persons seeking easy access into the community. To prevent that from happening, the JL POA Board has undertaken a project to increase the size of the gate and fencing in this area and around the Central Gate Opening. These improvements will create a higher barrier to dissuade any would-be intruder from climbing over it.
The installation will include a custom, six-foot high, bi-fold gate that folds towards the property. On the south side, 38 feet of fixed fencing will be added. Additionally, 10 feet of 6-foot high, fixed fence will be placed in front of the guard house, attached onto the front corners.
Planning for the future when the Central Gate may once again be open for use, concrete footings for a bar-code reader and slide-gate operator are also being installed as part of the improvements.

PIER EASEMENT GUIDELINES
The POA is charged with ensuring that our private waterways are free of obstruction for the many boats and vessels in the community. Like the street areas our waterways must be safe for navigational purposes. With almost 20% of our homes on navigable water, our DCB make periodic reviews of the saltwater areas, to ensure all owners are in compliance with their pier easement.
A pier easement is that portion of the navigable water that an owner may use adjacent to their lot for improvements such as pier, decks, docks, floating docks and their vessel or boat. The pier easement identifies the boundaries within which a pier may be constructed. These JL Easements should be recorded with Palm Beach County.
Homes located directly on the Intracoastal Waterway are not subject to the pier easement review as they fall under the regulations of the Army Corps of Engineers.

NEW COMMITTEE GUIDELINES
In the interest of transparency, the JL POA Board of Directors has developed a new set of Committee Guidelines. These new Guidelines will clearly outline committee structure, terms of service, and the basic contents of a required committee charter. Also covered are the process for how volunteers can submit their information, and the nominating process that follows.
All committees are advisory to the Board and as such must have a Board liaison. Additionally, all committee members are expected to follow the Code of Conduct included in the Guidelines. These new Committee Guidelines are posted on the JL website under Resident Info / Boards and Committees.

JUPITER LIGHTHOUSE
Did you know…the Jupiter Lighthouse is 160 years old? After construction was completed in May, 1860, the lighthouse was officially lighted on July 10, 1860. Built with an 1853 congressional appropriation of $35,000, the lighthouse satisfied the request of New York maritime interests for additional navigational aids in Florida.
The Jupiter Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Congressionally-designated Outstanding Natural Area (ONA), one of only three such lighthouses in the United States. A national treasure right here in our own backyard.
Although at present the lighthouse is closed for daytime hours, through September 22nd, you can still enjoy its evening programs. These include Twilight Yoga, Sunset Tours, and Moonrise Tours. The Jupiter Lighthouse looks forward to fully reopening on Wednesday, September 23rd. For information on prices, current safety measures, and additional activities please visit www.jupiterlighthouse.org.
