TRUSTEES CORNER

Summer in Concord Township means concerts at the gazebo, baseball, events and recreation classes and lots of biking, running and walking through our numerous trails and beautiful parks. The maintenance and upkeep of improving energy efficiency for the township and making up-to-date improvements requires renovations, replacements and repairs.

We have been fortunate to have received grant money from the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) to make energy efficient upgrades for the township community.  In the past 2.5 years, we have received approximately $178,000 from NOPEC. We have applied these funds to the following projects:

  • Re-siding the Community Center
  • New LED light fixtures in township buildings (Town Hall, Service Department, and Community Center)
  • Replacing the aging doors on our service department buildings
  • Replacing the time-worn double door at Town Hall

NOPEC is a non-profit group of over 240 member communities that negotiate lower utility rates. As Ohio’s largest governmental energy aggregator, NOPEC buys gas and electricity in bulk to help lower your utility bills. For more information, go to nopec.org

These improvements will continue to save our community money and allow us to be more energy efficient for years to come.

Be sure to check out our summer concert series sponsored by NOPEC, at our gazebo.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July and enjoy these beautiful summer days!

ZONING DEPARTMENT

Swimming Pool Permits

For many, summertime means swimming and fun in the sun! And for those residents who may be thinking about installing a pool this season, please be aware that a Zoning Permit is required for both above-ground and in-ground pools from the Concord Township Zoning Department.

Swimming pools must be located at least 15 feet from any side property line, 10 feet from the rear property line, and 50 feet from the road right-of-way. In addition, if there is a watercourse on your property there may be additional setbacks required from that watercourse. In-ground pools are required to have a minimum 4 ft. high wall or fence with a controlled access point to the pool. Above-ground pools shall be enclosed by either a fence or pool wall not less than 4 feet in height, with a controlled access point such as a removable ladder.

It is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure that the proper permits are obtained prior to construction, either by the contractor or company hired to do the project or by the residents themselves. A site plan or drawing of the property must accompany the application that shows the size and location of the pool and fence (if applicable), as well as the proposed distances to property lines or watercourse (if applicable).

The current Zoning Permit charge for an above-ground pool or an in-ground pool is $100 per application. For more information on these and other Zoning Permit requirements, contact the Zoning Department go to our website at www.concordtwp.com.
