It's finally time to "Kick It" with us this weekend. Join us June 19-21 for Kickin' It Federal Way, a three-day festival celebrating soccer, culture, and community at the Federal Way Performing Arts & Event Center.

The festival will feature FIFA World Cup 26™ watch parties, live performances on the outdoor stage, food truck alley, and a wide range of family-friendly activities, turning the PAEC and the surrounding property into a hub of entertainment throughout the weekend.

Community Gathers for Flag Day Event

Community members gathered at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on Saturday for the annual Flag Day Celebration. Presented by Soroptimist International Federal Way, the event celebrated the club's 50 years of service to the Federal Way community.

The Flag Day Celebration included remarks from Mayor Jim Ferrell, Municipal Court Judge Danielle Havens, and others about what the American flag represents in this country and around the world. Soroptimist International Federal Way awarded its Impact Award to community volunteer Shelley Pauls.

Mayor Jim Ferrell Speaks at State of County Address

Mayor Jim Ferrell welcomed attendees to King County Executive Girmay Zahilay's State of the County Address at the Federal Way Performing Arts & Event Center last week. Zahilay was elected as Executive in November of last year.

The theme of Zahilay's address was "Building a More Connected King County."

"It was inspiring to hear Executive Zahilay’s vision for the future and his commitment to building stronger communities across King County," Mayor Ferrell said. "I’m excited about the work ahead and confident his leadership will bring positive results for all of us."

Mayor Ferrell Joins Sherwood Elementary Volunteers for Recognition Event

Sherwood Forest Elementary School recently hosted a volunteer celebration to recognize the many individuals who dedicate their time and energy to support students and staff throughout the school year. Mayor Jim Ferrell was among the attendees.

The event brought together volunteers, students, and school staff for an afternoon of appreciation and connection. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on the important role volunteers play in helping schools thrive.

A highlight of the celebration kicked off with a lively musical performance by several teachers using boomwhackers.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time to volunteer in our schools. Your dedication and support help create a better experience for students and make a meaningful difference in their lives every day.

National Night Out is Back in Federal Way on Aug. 4

Registration for National Night Out opened last week, and nearly 20 neighborhoods have already signed up to join the fun!

This annual community event brings neighbors together with the Federal Way Police Department, the Mayor, the City Council, city officials, and public safety partners for an evening of connection, conversation, and community spirit.

Whether you are planning a neighborhood gathering or a business event, no matter small or large, now is the perfect time to get involved.

REMINDER: Fireworks are Illegal in

Federal Way

Except by special permit, it is unlawful for any person to possess, use, sell, discharge, or explode fireworks of any kind within the city of Federal Way.

Violations are punishable by fines of $615. Any person who discharges or uses a firework in a reckless manner that creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person or damage to the property of another is guilty of an arrestable offense.

Police will have extra patrols conducting fireworks enforcement as Independence Day approaches. Legal penalties aside, we invite you to be courteous to your neighbors, pets, wildlife, and the fire department by not igniting any celebration device that creates a spark or makes a loud noise.

The City of Federal Way is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration at City Hall on Thursday, June 18, at 12 p.m.

Join us as we honor and commemorate Juneteenth — the day that marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in the United States.

This special event will include guest speakers, community reflections and a reading of the City of Federal Way’s Juneteenth Proclamation.

FWPD Community Engagement Coordinator Tiffany Clemmings Named 2025 Civilian Employee of the Year

The Federal Way Police Department is proud to announce that Community Engagement Coordinator Tiffany Clemmings has been named the 2025 Civilian Employee of the Year.

Since joining the department in 2023, Tiffany has made a positive impact on both the agency and the Federal Way community. Through community outreach, public education, and employee support, she has helped strengthen the relationship between the department and the people we serve.

As Community Engagement Coordinator, Tiffany has improved the department's social media presence by creating informative and engaging content that keeps the community updated and highlights the work of FWPD officers and staff. Her efforts have also supported recruiting by giving potential applicants a look at the department and its culture.

Tiffany coordinates many of the department's largest community events, including Coffee with a Cop and National Night Out. In 2025, she worked with 29 neighborhoods to help organize National Night Out events, partnering with residents, city departments, and public safety personnel to create opportunities for the community to connect with the department.

Her work goes beyond events. Tiffany has built strong relationships with schools, apartment communities, senior groups, local businesses, and community organizations throughout Federal Way. She also provides crime prevention and fraud awareness presentations, helping residents stay informed and safe.

Within the department, Tiffany serves on the Peer Support Team, providing support and resources to fellow employees. She is always willing to help and is a trusted resource for both coworkers and community members.

Tiffany's positive attitude, dedication, and commitment to serving others are seen in everything she does. Whether she is planning an event, giving a presentation, supporting a coworker, or working with community members, she represents the values of the FWPD.

FWPD congratulates Tiffany Clemmings on being named the 2025 Civilian Employee of the Year and thanks her for her continued dedication to the department and the Federal Way community! 

Public Comment and Open House on the SEA Airport Proposed Expansion on June 25

Community members are invited to attend an Open House and Public Meeting on the Port of Seattle’s proposed SEA Airport Draft Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) Projects on Thursday, June 25, from 6–8 p.m. at Wildwood Elementary School.

The meeting is part of the public comment process for the proposed projects. Residents can learn more about the plans, ask questions and provide feedback before the comment period closes on July 20.

Miles for Meso on July 4

The Miles for Meso WA Memorial 5K Run/Walk will return for its 12th year on July 4.

This event is held in memory of Dick Dyhrman, a geologist with Weyerhaeuser Company; Bud Hatley, Federal Way School District Athletic Director; Bob Stewart, Federal Way High School teacher and coach; and other Washington residents who have lost their lives to mesothelioma.

Bloodworks Blood Drive on June 16

The City of Federal Way is partnering with Bloodworks Northwest to host a blood drive at City Hall on Tuesday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Did you know it takes 1,000 donors a day to maintain a safe and reliable blood supply in the Pacific Northwest? Make a one-hour appointment for the blood drive today.

Walk-ins may be available, but spots are limited.

The Senior Advisory Commission presents its Quarterly Senior Commission Connection Luncheon featuring special guests, the Arts Commission, on Wednesday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Federal Way Community Center.
