Helping Needy Families Have A Brighter Future

HELLO SUMMER!

It can't rain forever! It's June! It's time for Summer in the Ozarks which means hot & steamy days with flies and mosquitos galore. But it also means Help Give Hope's first major garage sale of the year! And that's not all. It also means several upcoming annual fundraising events plus our never-ending efforts to help children and families-in-crisis in Greene, Christian and Webster counties. This month's newsletter will take a closer look at a few of these events. But first, let's honor a dear friend...

SANTA AND FRIEND FOR LIFE...JIM CRUMPLEY

Every so often, it’s important we stop and recognize individuals who have had an extraordinary impact on Help Give Hope. And what better time than in our 40th anniversary year. We wish to honor a man who has been there from the very beginning. Who has given selflessly of himself to the children of Southwest Missouri through every season of his adult life. Who has walked up to the door of well over 3000 homes decked out in a hot and scratchy Santa suit to the utter delight of tens of thousands of kids (who were about to receive probably their best Christmas ever). And he never complained. OK...that might be stretching the truth a bit...Jim is Jim after all. But Mr. Grouchy becomes Mr. Softy when the kids squeal and Moms cry. Jim also has wrapped, conservatively, tens of thousands of presents and shopped for hundreds and hundreds of families.

Jim Crumpley, to those who really don’t know him, can seem a bit rough around the edges. Opinionated and bull-headed might even be terms you would hear to describe him. But those of us fortunate enough to call Jim ‘good friend’ know he is truly one of the finest, loyal and true friends you will ever have in this life. To be in Jim’s inner-circle is an honor and not to be taken lightly. And certainly never dull. Be prepared to take verbal abuse, a prerequisite for his close friends. But he receives as well as he gives, a mark of a good heart and loyal friend who doesn't take himself too seriously.

A party was thrown in Jim’s honor May 1st at Twin Oaks Country Club to celebrate his tenure as the former Club President. It was a tumultuous year to say the least; to include the pandemic, major club renovations and some personal health issues. But he did his usual great job and left the club better than he found it which is high praise given the obstacles he faced. Current club President David Ansley gave a heart-felt presentation.

And what can we say about Gloria, Jim’s wife? She is beautiful, intelligent and talented. To say Jim ‘married up’ would be a major understatement! Seriously, the only knock against Gloria is her taste in men. 😁

Help Give Hope surely would not be the organization it is today without Jim’s life-long loyalty and support which we hope is far from over. He is one of our family members and when you are family, it’s an appointment for life!! To know Jim is to love Jim!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

OUR FIRST MAJOR GARAGE SALE IS ALMOST HERE!

Our warehouse (2809 N. Cedarbrook) is absolutely packed and we are ready for our first major garage sale of the season (Friday and Saturday, June 11th & 12th, 8am - 4pm both days).

Truly top quality merchandise at garage sale prices.

*Ned Sports, with host Ned Reynolds and co-host Brad Gilbert (yes, our Brad Gilbert), The Cave (104.7), Thursday, June 10th, 9am

We will hold off on pick-ups until after this sale (will begin again Monday, June 14th). Just call Murray at 417-209-7027 to arrange pickup.

And remember, we will continue our monthly Friends and Family Sales in July and August (see dates below).

We truly appreciate any and all donations but we have learned over the years we simply cannot sell or use certain items so please note what we cannot accept…

· Mattresses (for legal reasons)

· Office desks

· Entertainment centers

· Box TVs (flat screens are fine)

· China cabinets

We no longer pick up after private garage sales

IMPORTANT: We love donations of appliances but please be accurate with their condition. Appliances are given to families in need. There is nothing worse than giving an appliance that does not work properly. We do not wish to appear presumptuous and we sincerely appreciate each and every donation but when we are unable to sell an item, often we must pay to have it removed. We just wish to be more efficient and cost effective.

HELP GIVE HOPE

The Longest Table 2021

We are excited to announce several changes with The Longest Table.

1) Have moved the date to September 2nd, 2021.

2) Metropolitan Grill will provide food service for the entire event.

3) We are thrilled to announce a special celebrity guest chef for the event. Elizabeth Heiskell is a regular food contributor to the Today Show, Food Network contributor, author of multiple cookbooks and a seasoned caterer, chef and culinary instructor.

Please mark your calendars for September 2, 2021 and The Longest Table.

We are thrilled beyond words that Pat Duran has graciously committed to providing the gourmet experience for The Longest Table. He is the creative culinary mind behind Metropolitan Grill, Retro Metro, Hard Knox BBQ and Great American Taco. At this time the menu has not been set, but experience tells us that he will amaze us with a superb dining experience.

Elizabeth Heiskell is more than just a southern belle chef. She is a hardworking, self-made woman that faces any obstacle or goal head on, with grit and determination. She tells the story of when her husband decided to grow tomatoes, he may have planted a few more than he should have. She worked tirelessly to sell to any vendor who would buy. She also realized it takes a lot of tomatoes to make a Bloody Mary mix. So, she created the highly successful Debutant Farmer Bloody Mary's mix! Elizabeth is a Today Show food contributor, has multiple Food Network appearances and is the author of multiple cookbooks. Her most recent, “Come On Over” became available May 4, 2021. She is an engaging, down-to-earth, entertaining speaker and presenter. We look forward to laughing with her and maybe sharing a cocktail.

ARRIS PIZZA/HELP GIVE HOPE

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Monday, September 20^th, 2021 Twin Oaks CC, 12:30 shotgun start, 3-person scramble.

Overwhelmingly, our players voted to move the event to September. There is no such thing as a guarantee, but traditionally mid to late September is the best golfing weather of the year!

Fun fact...the day we would have ordinarily held the tourney (Monday, May 10th), was cold (50's) and rainy! Whew! Let's pray for a beautiful day September 20th!
