THE ALACHUA COUNTY ANNUAL REPORT AND BUDGET MESSAGE
At the June 29 County Commission Special Meeting, County Manager Michele Lieberman presented the Annual Report Video and the FY 22 Budget Message. We encourage you to invest a little time to learn a great deal about your County government. 



Arts Council Grants Available
​Alachua County artists, artist Collaborators, and not-for-profit organizations can apply for a Mini Art Tag Grant (max. award $1,000) between July 1 and midnight on July 31, 2021. Grants will provide funding for visual art supplies, music supplies, advertising, studio time, printing, costumes, equipment, and other project-related expenses.

Grant funding is provided through “I support the Arts” specialty license plate sales. The Arts Council of Alachua County will review submittals at their September meeting and make funding recommendations to the County Commissioners. Funding will be available from October. 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022, with all required reports and reimbursements due by September. 30. 2022.

Funding Available for Developers Building Affordable Housing
The Alachua County Housing Finance Authority (the Authority), in conjunction with the Alachua County Commission, is publishing the Notice of Funding Availability for applications related to Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC) Request for Application (RFA) 2021-201. These applications or any other FHFC RFA are due no later than 5 p.m. on August 6, 2021. These funds are for developers interested in building affordable housing.

The Authority is requesting applications for the consideration of providing local government support for qualified multi-family housing developments which meet the goals of the Authority and comply with applicable federal and state law.

Small-Producer Agriculture Capital Support Grant (SMAACA Grant) Available
The Alachua County Commission has approved and funded a mini-grant pilot program for small farmers and ranchers. The grants are for farms and ranches that earn between $1,000 and $250,000 per year. Funding is for capital and equipment expenditures that will positively impact the business’ income.

The total grant request must not exceed $5,000. Only one application per farm or ranch is permitted. The total funding for this pilot program is $10,000.

This grant will also prioritize small farms and ranches owned by black persons, women, indigenous persons, and persons of color, as these groups have been marginalized in the past when competing for programs such as this.

Applications must be in the County Manager’s Office by 5 p.m. July 30, 2021.

Independence Day Schedules
Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021, in observance of the Independence Day Holiday.
Residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling, and yard trash will not be affected due to the observance of Independence Day.

The Hazardous Waste Collection Center, the five Alachua County Rural Collection Centers, and the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station will be open for their regularly scheduled hours.

The Solid Waste and Resource Recovery administrative offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, and will reopen on Tuesday, July 6.

Animal Services Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly. During regular hours (Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays), Alachua County Animal Services can be reached at 352-264-6870.
Rural Concerns Advisory Committee Vacancy
Alachua County is seeking applicants to fill a current vacancy on the Rural Concerns Advisory Committee for the position of member from the Farm Bureau. The County Commission established the Committee in 2003 to provide guidance and advice to the Board regarding rural concerns and issues in Alachua County. They generally meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Citizen Climate Advisory Committee Vacancies
​The Joint Water and Climate Policy Board is seeking applications to fill three openings for the Citizen Climate Advisory Committee (CCAC). The CCAC currently meets via Zoom and in-person at the Seagle Building (408 W. University Avenue, Gainesville) on the second Thursday of each month. The deadline to apply is August 3, 2021.

July Extension Programs
