| | Continuing the Journey: Service Dog Training in FWPD | |
Meet Nickel, the newest addition to the Federal Way Police Department (FWPD). Sarah Butts, our quartermaster, is excited to welcome this five-month-old yellow Labrador, who is beginning his journey as a Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy-in-training.
This marks Sarah’s fourth training project with Guide Dogs for the Blind, and she will be partnering with Nickel into the new year to help him become a life-changing service dog. The FWPD’s mission includes enhancing the quality of life for all within Federal Way, which aligns closely with Guide Dogs for the Blind’s mission of creating life-changing partnerships for individuals who are visually impaired while strengthening communities.
But that's not all: Zaida, Sarah’s very first puppy in training here at FWPD, has officially graduated and is now working as a guide dog in Southern California. Sarah spent 10 months with Zaida, from late 2023 into 2024 and is incredibly proud of her accomplishments.
And there’s more: We are currently awaiting updates on Fiddler, Sarah’s third puppy in training. Fiddler is in the final two phases and is very close to becoming a working guide dog. We are excited to see what’s next for him, be that graduation into a guide or transitioning into another service role.
Let’s show Sarah, Nickel, Zaida, and Fiddler our support as they continue to make a difference in the lives of others!

| | SCAM ALERT: Fake Text Messages | | |
We, along with regional partners, have been hearing reports about scam texts pretending to be from the Washington State Motor Vehicle Administration. The messages claim you owe money for traffic tickets and threaten things like license suspension or legal action if you don’t pay by a certain date.
These are not real. It is a scam.
Scamming is at an all-time high. We are seeing it through text messages, emails, and even physical mail.
