Rector's Corner
Dear St. George's Family,

It's hard to believe that summer is already here!  I know that many of you have some great plans for this summer, spending time with your family, traveling to far off places or enjoying staycations, and hopefully slowing down a bit to enjoy the beauty of God's creation.  To kick off the summer St. George's has some great opportunities to enjoy fellowship with your church family this month.

I am very pleased to report that the church office move last month went very smoothly.  Our only major issue has been in the functionality of our phone system.  For the last couple weeks you may have been unsuccessful in reaching the church office via phones, but I'm happy to say they are now back in business again. We are awaiting the remainder of the furniture to fully equip the space, but hope to be in full operation mode by the end of the summer.  And, once the space is complete, all are welcome to reserve the two beautiful meeting spaces in the church office for your group's next meeting.  I want to give a special thanks to the Church Office Move Task Force and all your help in making this transition as smooth as possible.  A special thanks is offered to John Rickard in his efforts and leadership in the process.

On Sunday evening, June 28th at 8 pm all are invited to participate in interfaith multicultural event in Kleberg Hall.  We will welcome the Dialogue Institute of Austin to St. George's for a Ramadan Iftar (fast breaking) dinner with the local Muslim community.  This is a great opportunity for our Christian community to enrich our relationship with our Islamic brothers and sisters.  Please mark your calendars and check out the article below in this publication for more information.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you for the entire St. George's community.  Last month marked my five year anniversary of being here at this great, vibrant, healthy church.  You have shown me what it means to be a kingdom creating community, and have shown me God's love and grace in numerous ways.  I was surprised to receive well wishes, thanks, flowers, cake, and a special blessing last month.  I look forward to many more years of fruitful kingdom making here at St. George's!

Peace,
The Rev. Kevin LJ Schubert

Wednesday Weavings

The adult discussion group Wednesday Weavings will meet on the first and third Wednesdays in June from 6:30 to 8 p.m. We share a simple meal, have a short time of centering prayer, and discuss a selected reading from the journal Weavings: A Journal of the Christian Spiritual Life. Because we discuss a different reading each time, feel free to come any Wednesday you can. Please bring a contribution for the salad bar meal (for example, fruit, vegetable, or crunchy toppings). This month, the gatherings are on June 3 at Sandra and Herb Dickson's home and June 17 at Sarah Campbell's home.  Copies of the reading will be available in church on the Sunday before the Wednesday gathering. Please join us if you can.  For more information, e-mail Frances Rickard at  fajrickard@gmail.com .

Summer Kidsword

It's that time of year when we begin to think about summer KidsWord. To give our wonderful teachers time in church with their families and to give others a chance to spend time with our sweet children, we ask members of the parish family to sign up to teach a KidsWord class for one or more Sundays this summer. We can provide materials and lesson plans, or you can create your own. Talk to Jan Philips for more information or to sign up. Jan's email:  Janwp22770@aol.com

St. George's Men's Dinner

The St. George's Men's Dinner will be held at Kleberg Hall, Wednesday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m.  Hosts and cooks for June will be Charles Webb & Ralph Hausser.  Charles will prepare his signature hot dogs with accompaniments and Ralph will do a vegetarian version of Frances Rickard's baked ziti with spinach and tomatoes (using eggplant).  Ice tea and water will be served.  Alcoholic drinks on a BYOB basis.  Please see Charles or Ralph for more details.

Wright House Wellness Center Celebration
and Gratitude Blessing

Sunday June 28th,  we will welcome the Wright House Wellness
Center to the 10:30 am  service.  During the service we will celebrate the Center and their stewardship of our historic home (now church office).  For the past twenty years the Center has occupied the house maintaining the building and servicing the Austin and surrounding areas with wellness care for HIV and Aids patients. Come and share your gratitude for the Center and what they have provided for St. George's, and continue to provide for the Austin area.

Ramadan Iftar Dinner at St. George's
Sunday, June 28th at 8:00 pm nda, Jupm

All are invited to participate in a special dinner hosted by
The Dialogue Institute of Austin this month.  During the month of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide observe a time of fasting.  Regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam, the month lasts 29-30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food and drinking liquids. Food and drink is served daily, before dawn and after sunset.  We are invited to participate in this iftar (fast breaking) observance on Sunday, June 28th after sunset at 8 pm.  The Muslim community will prepare and provide the food to share with our community.  Mark your calendars to participate in this great religious and cultural custom of our brothers and sisters of Islam.  For more information please contact The Rev. Kevin LJ Schubert at the church office.

Outreach Meeting Updates

Two Outreach updates from the May meeting:
First, Outreach would like to renew/refresh our support for Any Baby Can and the food bags project. St. George's has supported ABC for more than 30 years, and long-time parishioner Pat Shoop was once named volunteer of the year.

What we need: coordinated leadership and oversight to managed a sustained, effective effort that is appropriate for our parish's resources. Interested in learning more? Please reach out to Belinda McGhee for details on current status or visit with Chuck Webb about the program.

Second, we would like to celebrate and support Safe Place's new onsite forensic examination facility scheduled to open late summer 2015. Carolyn Moreau and Alice Nelson are coordinating efforts to provide therapeutic items for victims of domestic assault and violence and a stocked toy box for children who accompany their parent to the exam site. Look for more details to come on this one-time outreach effort.

" It's My Turn" Coffee Hour

June 28th is the next "It's My Turn" Sunday.  This is an opportunity for parish members to host  the coffee hour that follows the 10:30 service.  You can also team up to make it a group effort!  To sign up, please let the church office administrator know, who will add your name to the on-line calendar ( stgeorgeaustin@gmail.com ).

Christopher House Baskets

While you're on vacation this summer, please think to bring your unused hotel soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions back with you to St. George's. Every Sunday, we take donations of such products and create beautiful welcome baskets for new Christopher House patients and their family members. A little soap can go a long way in making someone's (often sudden) transition to hospice care a little easier.

Welcome to the Newly Baptized!

Congratulations to the newest member of St. George's:
Emma Jane Braun, daughter of Caroline & Tim Braun was baptized on May 10th, Mother's Day.

Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.
