HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTEND PUBLIC WORKS FIELD TRIP
On May 22, a group of 26 high school students attended a special tour of the Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) headquarters as part of the 59th annual National Public Works Week celebration.

Hosted by DPW and planned in conjunction with the Marin County Office of Education, the field trip introduced the students to a wide range of disciplines that fall under the purview of public works. It was the first time in recent decades that an extensive Public Works tour was organized for students.

Students visited the County Garage, where fleet vehicles are maintained.
GO FUND ME FOR LEWIE MILLER
The one thing we are always impressed with is the generosity and sense of community we see within the Land Surveying profession. Whether it be raising money for scholarships or lending a helping hand, Surveyors come through. With that said, we are asking for your support today as one of our own could use our collective help. Former CLSA LA Past President, new dad and all around awesome guy, Lewie Miller, was unfortunately part of a very bad car accident.

In the early evening of May 17th Lewie Miller was headed home from work on Topanga Canyon to his wife and one-month old son when a car headed in the opposite direction drifted into his lane and hit him head on.

He suffered two broken femurs, 10 total fractures in his legs and feet, a broken right heel bone and ankle, two broken ribs and broken neck bones.

It will take months of physical rehabilitation before he is able to walk again, resulting in not only loss of work but a rehaul of their home and environment to make it wheelchair accessible. There is also a threat for future medical procedures that could present themselves in the near future or years down the road.

We want to do everything we can to support them and help them deal with medical bills. We are grateful for any help as this will be a very long and difficult road.

Thank you for support.

Sincerely,
CLSA LA Chapter
STOLEN EQUIPMENT IN OAKLAND
On Friday, May 17, 2019, at approximately 12:30pm our Leica TS16 I 3” R1000, imaging Total Station (Serial No. 3012103) was stolen while conducting a survey at the intersection of 81st Ave. and Bancroft Ave. The individuals who stole the equipment picked up the tripod and TS16 and threw it in the backseat of a white BMW X3 or X5 SUV. Although it may be a longshot in getting it back, if you have any information or come across our instrument, please contact Chris Laquian (info below) and/or the Oakland Police Department.
