A Message from the Concord Township Trustees
Yesterday wrapped up the month of May with a beautiful ceremony at the cemetery to honor the men and women who died while serving our country. Did you know that 245 veterans are buried in our cemetery including eight that are Revolutionary War soldiers? Thank you to our Trustees who spoke at the ceremony. The ceremony, which was live-streamed, can be found on our Facebook page.
June is going to be a busy month in Concord Township! In addition to this fun summer month packed with graduations, weddings, Father’s Day and the start of our Concord Jams concert series, we also have several projects developing this month. Lucky’s Market is getting close to opening. In addition, we are exploring the township trash collection options; hosting a Ribbon Cutting to re-dedicate the Environmental Learning Center; and progressing with the fire station project just to name a few!
It is exciting to see the Fire Station project progressing. At the recent Trustee meetings, we have been discussing the selection of an owner’s representative. You may familiarize yourself with this project by viewing the meetings from May 5th and May 19th during which the selection of the owner’s rep is discussed at length. The firm selected for the project is RFC. The Trustees have taken a substantial amount of time to perform due diligence and vet firms for this project. They unanimously agreed that RFC is a good fit for the project. Carl Dondorfer, Trustee commented, “I am very comfortable voting for RFC for the owner’s representative for the fire station project. They are experienced in the industry, with owner’s reps and with multi-phased fire station projects such as ours. They are the best firm to see this project through and have the best interest of the township.” Morgan McIntosh added, "RFC has been very flexible with the terms. I am very comfortable with that.” RFC began work as owner’s rep for the project last week. Stay tuned for updates during the monthly Trustee meetings and post updates on our Facebook page as the project progresses. We look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and provide much needed safety service facilities to our community. Construction drawings for the project are anticipated in the next week.

At the regularly scheduled Trustee meeting on May 19, the Trustees voted to approve a purchase order for RFC Contracting, LLC for Owners’ Representative Service. We are excited to begin working with RFC on the fire station projects!

You may have seen us in your neighborhood. As we flow water and test each fire hydrant, we remain at the hydrants until our work is complete. We will not leave a hydrant unattended. While we flush hydrants, a discoloration of your water may occur; which may clear by running cold water for several minutes. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
What can you do to assist?
Keep shrubs and grasses cleared from around the hydrants. This will keep them visible and easily accessible. A three-foot clearance around each hydrant is optimal.

Three water companies supply water in Concord Township: Aqua Ohio, The Lake County Department of Utilities and Painesville City Water. These companies also perform maintenance on the hydrants at various times during the year.

Did you know that June 12th is designated as Women Veterans Day?
The first Women Veterans Day was held June 12, 2018, marking the 70th anniversary of the groundbreaking Women's Armed Services Integration Act, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. That law enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and the recently formed Air Force.
On December 13, 2019 Senate Bill 77 was introduced by Senators Sandra Williams, a U.S. Army veteran and Frank Hoagland, a retired Navy Seal, and signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine. There are currently 67,000 female Ohio Veterans with 1,100 from Lake County.
Four female veterans are buried in the Concord Cemetery:

• Genevieve (Gean) Short
• Marilyn Talbert
We thank all the brave woman who have served and are currently serving our country.

Are you thinking about installing a pool this summer? If so, it is the property owner’s responsibility to ensure that the proper permits are obtained prior to construction, either by the contractor/company hired to do the project or by the residents themselves. A site plan or drawing of the property must accompany the application that shows the size and location of the pool and fence (if applicable), as well as the proposed distances to property lines. The current Zoning Permit charge for an above-ground pool is $100, and $150 for an in-ground pool (with fence).
The Zoning Commission has two public hearings scheduled on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 7pm. For information about these hearings click here.

Browse handmade crafts and jewelry from local artisans and grab dinner and dessert from Frank’s Brat’s and East Coast Custard. Music begins at 7pm sharp. Restrooms are located inside Town Hall. |

Celebrate Concord Township: Where History Never Grows Old |

Concord Township’s Bicentennial year is 2022. Each month, we will feature several photos depicting Concord’s history. This month, we celebrate a few notable citizens that have helped shape our Township’s history. Born in Concord in 1858, Walter Wellman was an adventurer and explorer who founded the Cincinnati Post at the age of 21. In 1905, he built a dirigible named the “Polar Expedition” and attempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean by air. He piloted several airships, however many journeys ended in disaster. The remains of his last dirigible recovered were donated to the Smithsonian Institute. Wellman is chronicled as the “Lindbergh of his day”. |

Born in 1864, Dr. George Washington Crile researched war-related illness while serving in World War 1, and developed pre-surgery anesthetic methods as a result. He completed the first successful direct blood transfusion in 1906 and is one of the five doctors who founded the Cleveland Clinic in 1921.. |

Elga Radcliffe Pomeroy taught at the Old Stone School in the early 1900’s. Married to Lloyd Pomeroy, the couple purchased the schoolhouse in 1923 after the Consolidated School began. An early member of the Concord Garden Club, Elga cultivated rosebushes, and several remain surrounding the Old Stone School today. |

Spotlight on a Local Non-Profit Group |
|
Sub Zero Mission helps homeless people stay warm during the winter months by providing hats, coats, gloves, boots, sleeping bags, new socks, tents and other warming items. They believe that nobody should freeze to death in America. This group of volunteers helps find those exposed to the elements in northeast Ohio and other cities in the region then offers them warming items. The 501C3 BBB 5-Star Accredited Organization owns several vehicles to scout and make deliveries in these areas. The group also concentrates on finding veterans who make up a high percentage of homeless. They carry special laminated cards with contact information in order to get them the special help that is available to veterans.
