This April, we've celebrated National Volunteer Month, Fair Housing Month, and Earth Month, deepening our connection with our community, volunteers, staff, and supporters. We were thrilled to honor our dedicated volunteers whose efforts are vital to our mission. Plus, our Homeownership Resource Fair in Long Beach truly embodied the spirit of 'Home is the Key'! | |

Home Is the Key! 🏠🔑
Inside Our Homeownership Resource Fair & Community Celebration
| |
This month marks the 56th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act! We celebrated the fundamental importance of homeownership in a big way by hosting the Homeownership Resource Fair and “Home Is the Key” celebration! Over 100 Angelenos brought their family and friends to the 14th Street Park in Long Beach to learn about affordable homeownership.
We shared information on a variety of resources, including homebuyer education, downpayment assistance and home repair services, all available to qualified families. The community enjoyed games, music provided by iHeart Radio, raffles, refreshments, and received emergency preparedness kits.

Run Habi, Run Happy!
Making a Difference at the 2024 LA Marathon
| |
Staff and friends of Habitat LA joined together as Team Run Habi to raise money for our mission in the 2024 LA Marathon! Our team pounded the pavement from the Dodger Stadium to Ave of the Stars in Century City to achieve a personal milestone and giveback at the same time. Thank you, Team Run Habi!
We also had an out-of-this-world cheer station full of volunteers ready to support all marathon runners along the route, providing snacks, water, sunscreen, muscle spray, and lots of cheers!
Relive the thrilling day, view our Flickr Album!

Taking Care of our Environment, Earth Month & Beyond!
Habitat’s Zero Waste Events
| |
It’s Earth Month and we’re looking back at our eco-friendly footprint! Since 2011, Habitat LA has championed zero waste events with the help of our partner Reel Waste & Recycling, our official waste/recycle provider. This means no scrap of paper or plastic has gone to a landfill from one of our events, like the Home Builders Blitz and off-site gatherings, since June 2011. Reel Waste & Recycling brings trash bins and containers to our sites where they hand sort the recyclables. Items that can’t be recycled are taken to a processing facility and turned into material used to pave roads/streets.
We’re happy to have Reel Waste & Recycling at our Volunteer Appreciation event and our Homeownership Resource Fair, among many others throughout the year!
