THE KING STREET CHRONICLE

2013=20 Years of House! November 2012 Vol 7, Issue 11

Welcome to the November '012 edition of the King Street Chronicle. As we continue to slowly recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, we hope and pray all in the affected areas are safe and lives have returned to some degree of normality. Some are out of the woods but many still aren't! Parts of SI, LI, NJ & more still need help. RPM & PACHA NYC are holding a benefit with a ton of DJs this coming Wednesday. If ur unable to attend you can still volunteer or simply donate. Give $10 by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999.

Let the music play! This month we ramp up a great variety of releases coming your way. A brand new album by Dubtribe's Sunshine Jones, a twisted take on the catalog's Reformed Classics comp, and releases by Namy feat. Josh Milan, Mateo & Matos, Cevin Fisher & many more. Plus we'd like to congratulate Benny Soto & Danny Krivit on their 718 Sessions 10-Year Anniversary! Catch the musical happenings here.

There's nothing more beautiful than being at peace with the life you live and the life that surrounds you. Music has the same effect at times. The joy that you get from a lo-to-mid tempo beat, the power of an almighty funky plucking rolling baseline, and inspirational lyrics just soothe the soul. Fuse those sounds with one of the most uniquely sensual male voices in Deep House Music and you have the latest album by Dubtribe Sound System's, Sunshine Jones. Ame Electronique is more than electronic love, it's the electronic music you want to make love to. A perfect 10 track collection starting off with soothing ambient sounds to get you relaxed & in the mood, followed by a cool easy funky "I Got Your Back," with guest vocal by Aridadne Thompson. The album's synthetic ebb & flo-play continues with "Four Million" and the full seductive sermon in "I Can Feel Warm Sun On My Face." The groove continues with "While You Were Sleeping" with guest female spoken word by Carmen Martinez who offsets Sunshine's synth-demonized vox. "We Are What We Are" ramps up the energy a bit & "Come To Me" has one of the most irresistible hypno-grooves out there. "Dirty Love" is up next which is the lead single off the album already being remixed by Aki Bergen, Louie Fresco & others. The pretty & mellow "Fill Up My Heart" follows and it's all capped off by "Exit - Ocean Beach Waves," complimenting this album with some of the most beautiful sounds on the planet.

Raised on New York City's late 70's disco shows, Eddie "E-Z" Matos and John "Roc" Mateo hooked up in the mid 80's via John's own pirate radio mixes that he broadcasted from home. After being mentored by a pre-Masters-At-Work, Louie Vega and spending much of the late 80's actively playing NYC's house circuit, Mateo & Matos embarked on a recording career that saw them drop deep singles for classic labels such as Nervous, Spiritual Life, and Henry Street as well as several original and mix albums for Scotland's Glasgow Underground. The Godfather of House Music himself, Frankie Knuckles, once quoted their music as "Stellar, Magnificent" and "Brilliant!" With an endorsement like that one must believe. Their productions have withstood the test of time and to prove that we have a healthy 24-tune collection making up the 4th installment of the House Legends series. They join living legends Mood II Swing, Frankie Feliciano and Kerri Chandler who've preceded them with their own classic comps. Here we have early releases dating back to '95 like "Feel Funky," and "Let Yourself Go" and cuts like the well known "Congo Deep" released in 2002 to a great tune, "Open Minded," released just this year and a ton more. Chockfull of soulful house melodies, jazzy grooves and tribalistic afro rhythms this collection will take you back, move you forward and make you sway from side to side. Let's face it. Mateo & Matos are like a game of Blackjack where in the end, The House will always win.

Digging deep deep in the King St crates once again comes one of the very first songs that put this artist on the road to becoming one of the most well known and respected in House Music. DJ Roland Clark continues to be a force of soulful nature after having achieved a #1 Billboard Club hit back in the day with "Show Me" and one of the biggest underground hits, "Flowers" and "I Get Deep," whose vocal is STILL being played today in the guise of it's many bootlegs. From his soulfully sung pieces, grounding him as a versatile artist and putting him up there with some of the best R&B counterparts, to his thunderous spoken word, be they preachy or sassy, DJ Roland Clark has played ball with the best. Here we pay homage to him once again with "Until We Meet Again," originally remixed by legendary Matthias Heillbronn & Mike Delgado, aka Deep Zone when it was originally released back in '96, now sees revival remixes by UK soulful heavyweight Sean McCabe and a more ramped up remix by Italo-electronic outfit the Dollscombers.

Japanese producer Namy teams up with one of the most distinct voices in Soulful House Music, Josh Milan, who delivers a beautiful vocal performance on this record. Josh of course is/was the other half of the superb production team known as Blaze, with Kevin Hedge and has since been doing a slew of independent projects. Destined to be a fave at many of the best soulful & deep house parties like Body & SOUL, Roots and Shelter, this song is finely tuned with smacked up slap happy House remixes by the almighty DJ Spen, and deeper, headier mixes by cool EU producers Aki Bergen & Daniel Jaze. The result of all this talent coming together on one release is nothing short of phenomenal.

King Street's stepsister label Street King recently released a vibrant single "Global Apocolypse" by one of Spain's hottest rising House producers, Pach DJ. House producer Mihalis Safras' Remix of the tune gave us all the deep thrusting percussion, bouncing baseline and looped up synth that one would expect from a peak hour pumper. Fellow Greek countryman Lee Burton raised the pH with a drop of acid and EU producer Mikee delved deeper into the machine with some borderline industrial samples. Now we're adding "Danza Loca" to further crank up the heat. On remix duty are italian producers, the Deepshakerz who hit us with a funky rolling rhythmic tribal instrumental that's sure to get clubbers flocking to the dance floor. Their Dub is a bit more hifi with snares and other popping percussion. And it's off & poppin' just like that.

NuDeep House prods Rey & Kjavik release their debut single on Nite Grooves. After hearing their recent eclectic remix of Soundealers' "I Know You Want Me," we wanted more. "Animal vs Beast" is a midtempo almost 80's-type analog effort with Seal-like vocals by R&B crooner Kevin Iszard, and whose synth vibrato quotient is ramped up by a remix from Swiss producers Adriatique.

This record has yet one more version to add to the collection. Organic Deep House producer SIS comes on board and adds a special touch on the SIS Edit and real hypno-heady, techier version on his SIS Remix. Originally produced by 2 of Southern Spain's finest. Along with the latest mixes from Grammy Award Winner, Louie Vega, you'll find Tuccillo's booty-shakin' smooth & funky Nu Dip Dub on this packakge. Kiko Navarro included this tune on his recently-released Long Hot Summer compilation, with additional remixed interpretations from another master producer Osunlade, as well as an epic tech house rerub by Dima Studitsky that was supported by the likes of King Britt and many others.
