Executive Board Member Reports

Juliana McMahan, Chair

We had a packed room for our June 3 Candidate Forum with 14 candidates participating including seven state-wide candidates and seven local candidates! You can read about who KCRP endorsed at https://www.kitsaprepublicans.com/2024candidates.

This year we are doing more to help candidates get off to a good start. One new thing we did this year was to train our new candidates on how to file PDC reports, helped them with their Voter’s Guide statements, and arranged for professional photos for the Voter’s Guide. Thanks to Shirley Keen, who scheduled everyone on short notice! We also followed up with training on how to talk to people about issues. We are excited about this new approach, and it should help us to recruit candidates in the future.

We are excited to announce that we have hired Jessica Rice as our Kitsap County Field Director to help implement our Strategic Plan! If you want to support our efforts to turn Kitsap County into a solid Republican county, please help us fund this effort by donating at:

Sean Murphy, Vice Chair

Marti Mioni has stepped forward and will be filling in for me as the Events Committee Chair during campaign season.

We’ve noticed a disturbing trend in local events. Some are blocking us from participating because we are a "political" entry. If you’re at any local events and see a Democrat booth, but no Republican one, please let us know so we can investigate to see if we are being discriminated against.

Elizabeth Doll, State Committeewoman

There are two items of good news from the Supreme Court this month. In the President of South Carolina Senate vs. the NAACP of South Carolina, there was a mention of State Senator Nikki Torres’ claim against the redistricting map recently adopted in the 15th Legislative District. She’s excited about this as it means that once the 9th District is finished with their lower court work on the case it will probably get appealed to the SCOTUS, and they are very likely to accept the case.

The second piece of SCOTUS good news is in the case of, NRA vs. V. Vullo which was the case about an insurance regulator in New York, forcing Insurance companies to not cover anything related to firearms, or any organization related to firearms. The SCOTUS said that the 2nd Circuit Court acted so egregiously in dismissing the NRA’s case that the NRA received a 9-0 unanimous decision written by Justice Sotomayor.

The recent Cascade Conference was wonderful. We need to talk to people. A majority of the signatures on the petitions were by Democrats and Independents, so we can get those moderates to vote for them, but we have to know who they are, and get out and talk to them.

The WAGOP Executive Committee requested the Candidate Committee investigate claims made by Jason Rantz about Semi Bird. It sounds like they should have more information soon.

Note: The Bird campaign now has a comprehensive response which can be found at:

Linda Popp, Secretary & GOTV Committee Chair

She attended the Unequivocal Truth Conference put on by One Washington in Gig Harbor at Harborview Fellowship Church. It was inspiring! Marie Rogerson from Leadership Institute gave a great presentation on a specific strategy called, “Mind the Gap” where you learn effective communication strategies to help you speak to those you know who have different values. Leadership Institute will be offering this free course in its full version on June 24.

She spent 4-hours out on a corner in Silverdale on Saturday collecting signatures for the I-2066 Initiative with Joyce Feiss, Diana Lake, Kim Bartell, and Bethany Gray.

She attended a 23rd LDRC Meeting with our three candidates, Kurt Robertson, Jamie Miles, and Lance Byrd to brainstorm and strategize about campaign needs. Juliana McMahan and Jessica Rice were there as well. If you ever want to run for office, there are seasoned, experienced people who will help you to be successful. You’re not in it alone. Please remember that for future elections.

Francis Doyle, South Kitsap & Election Integrity Committee Chair

His main focus has been working with the Election Integrity Committee, getting people out to see if there are fraudulent votes, as well as checking the precincts where we think there are fraudulent votes, that’s our main focus.

The student attendance has dropped down to 69% in the SKSD. It’s pretty hard to learn math, English, and science when you’re only in school 69% of the time.

Rest in Peace Matt Ryan

1934-2024

Long-time Republican Thomas "Matt" Ryan died peacefully on June 18, 2024. His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Silverdale Lutheran Church (11701 Ridgepoint Dr NW, Silverdale, WA). Fellow Republicans are invited to attend.

Matt served as KCRP Chairman in the 1980's, Kitsap County Commissioner in the 1990's, and was a Precinct Committeeman for about 30 years. He was elected as a Freeholder and worked to change the structure of our county government (the new county charter failed to pass in the 2003 election). An active member of Kitsap Alliance of Property Owners, Matt's mission for over 40 years was to protect property rights. Matt was a dedicated campaign worker for Republican candidates from 1976 until he became to ill to work. He wrote so many letters to the editor on behalf of Republicans and property rights issues that the Sun Editor severely limited his input.

Thoughts and stray input

Monthly Meeting Report: The meeting on June 3, 2024 was well attended with attendees standing and flowing out the door! Not all candidates could make it, but those who came were Isaac Holyk and Dr. Raul Garcia (both running for US State Senator), Drew MacEwen (running for Congress), Bob Hagglund (running for Lt. Governor), Dale Whitaker (running for Secretary of State), Matt Hawkins (running for State Auditor), David Olson (running for OSPI), Phil Fortunato (running for Insurance Commissioner), Lance Byrd (running for State Senate 23rd), Kurt Robinson (running for 23rd), Jamie Miles (running for 23rd), Jesse Young (running for 26th), and Sean Murphy and Oran Root who are running as a team for County Commissioners against four Democrat candidates.

https://www.kitsaprepublicans.com/post/kitsap-county-republican-party-announces-a-full-slate-of-candidate-endorsements

Presentation is everything, some were well turned out, some were casual, and some found their stride and were passionate & inspirational. Most believed in common-sense issues. Stand-outs were Matt Hawkins and David Olsen--who spoke with great sincerity about public schools. Hawkins and Fortunado were very funny guys and enjoyable to listen to.

Important themes which repeated from MANY of the candidates:

·        Fentanyl flowing freely over the southern border needs to halt. One candidate said "Drugs cause homelessness, the Democrats throw money at it to solve it, and then raise our taxes." Some candidates wish to make the selling/trafficking of fentanyl a felony murder charge.

·        It has been echoed more than once that Federal funding should be taken away from Sanctuary Cities across the country. (Graft via "social victimhood" is a VERY old and profitable model in politics, according to one psychologist who discovered this hard fact when in college, during a local project with social services & non-profits in the Bay Area in the 80s.)

·        Schools were frequently in focus. MANY citizens have lost trust in public schools and never sent their children back after COVID. It's not just the insane trend of allowing "trans" boys into girls’ sports and "taking away scholarships from our girls." Some parents have children in alternative studies (for example, dance academies) a LOT of parents are now home-schooling their children or have them enrolled in alternate schools.

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump: The Fake News Washington Post came up with the ridiculous idea that Donald J. Trump will call for Mandatory Military Service. This is only a continuation of their EIGHT YEAR failed attempt to damage me with the Voters. The Story is completely untrue. In fact, I never even thought of that idea.

Mr. Trump is endorsing many many candidates on Truthsocial.com, so it IS very important nation-wide, to support our party's other candidates, not just what's going on in D.C. Sadly there are a LOT of unchecked trolls on Truthsocial, and it's difficult to wade through. There is no block button on the platform, and here's to hoping it cleans up eventually. It IS good for checking Mr. Trump's tweet thoughts.

Something to ponder: Biden is trying to gain votes by offering free beer, free birth control, and pay offs for student loans. Free Stuff!!!! Then Trump turns around and says "So they want to tax your tips??? Let's fix that, no more taxing your tips, for all service workers." Think of it. One candidate is just giving away freebies, only it isn't freebies, it comes out of the pockets of the American tax payers. The OTHER candidate recognizes that a tip is a reward for meritorious conduct, you EARN it by making an effort. So why is the government trying to tax that and take it away?

While not well-sourced, this WAS pithily written, an alleged Prague newspaper quote.

From Chuck DeCosta: This quote came from the Czech Republic. Someone over there has it figured out. It was translated into English from an article in a Prague newspaper.

"The danger to America is not Joseph Biden, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of a Biden presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Biden, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The American Republic can survive a Biden, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president."

A thought. IF Mr. Trump is re-elected in November, he will only be here for four years. We need to be looking ahead to future generations. How do we incorporate "lessons learned" from our current political landscape, so that future generations can benefit? How do we engage younger generations who have given up on the idea of Democracy through apathy? Corruption is eternal, and it grows if not corrected. How do we create a legal system to prevent abuse of power in the future?

When asked what kind of government the founding fathers had created for America, Benjamin Franklin replied, "A Republic if you can keep it."

Book and Movie Recommendations:

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump: Great Patriot Charlie Kirk, Head of Turning Point USA, has a wonderful new Book, “RIGHT WING REVOLUTION.” It is a MUST READ for those who want to take our country back from the Radical Left who are destroying it. This will be very helpful reading for those looking to Save our Nation. Get your copy today!

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/right-wing-revolution-charlie-kirk/1144945371

If you have not found these two videos on streaming yet, look for both on Tubi. Sons of Liberty (mini-series: 2015) and Revolution (movie: 1985.) Sons of Liberty streams on the History Channel, focuses on the early days of the American Revolution, and the role of Sam Adams. The acting & writing is gritty, authentic and excellent. Not for younger kids. Revolution stars Al Pacino, Donald Sutherland, and Graham Greene in a small role. It is appropriate for Middle School, shows the brutality of war (specifically, NYC c. 1776 and surrender at Yorktown), but there is no "overt gore."
