Kindergarten's Apple Day!
"Was Johnny Appleseed a real person? Absolutely, and his contribution to the apple crop is what legends are made of. His life’s work is such an important part of history that communities around the country hold festivals every year to celebrate the September holiday created in his honor."-almanac.com
Here at BSS, our kindergarteners and our eighth graders got together last Wednesday, October 9th in the morning to celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day with everything apples. The students had a lot of fun tasting apple chips, green, red & yellow apples, applesauce and even created apple structures! Here are pictures of their Apple Day.

Burlington Fire Department Visits BSS's Elementary School!
On Thursday, October 10th in the morning, we had the honor of receiving a visit by the local Burlington Firefighters & Smokey the Bear! Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire our students got a lesson on fire prevention that will help them be prepare in case they ever encounter a fire. The students learned:
Top Safety Tips
- Fire is Fast! You could have less than 2 minutes to get out safely, once your smoke alarms sound.
- Smoke alarms sense smoke well before you can, alerting you to danger.
- Smoke alarms need to be in every bedroom, outside of the sleeping areas, and on each level of your home.
- Knowing two ways out of every room is an important piece of your home fire escape plan.
- Have an outside meeting place, that is a safe distance from your home, where everyone should meet.

Option C - Parent Portal
As children continue to develop executive functioning skills, they are in great need of both practice and support. Please use the valuable resource of our Option C Parent Portal. Here you will find your child’s current grades, assignments, attendance/tardy record and much more. While we want our children to be self sufficient - this is a process, one which requires parent support (which means checking their backs :). Please have your child show you around Option C and all the valuable information that it holds. If you need help accessing your Parent Portal, please contact Mr. Rico:admissions@bssknights.org

The JV volleyball season came to an end last night, Thursday, October 10th. The kids had a blast and gave it their all. Thank you to the coaches for bringing volleyball back to BSS! 🏐 | A heartbreaker in High Point, NC last Wednesday, October 9th. Our Knights fell 3-2 this evening in the soccer championship game. Trailing 3-0 with under 10 minutes to play, our boys fought back with 2 quick goals to cut the lead to 3-2, but eventually came up just short. We're all so proud of this team. We even fought through the tears and honored our ten 8th graders after the game. Thank you all for a great season! Shout out to all the BSS teachers who made the trip to support the team, and to Coach Aleem and Coach Miller for their dedication to our kids. We are truly blessed to have them. | |
