This morning, Friday, March 28th, our middle school math teacher, Ms. Griselda Martinez, invited Fr. Marcel Amandi to speak to our middle school students about the pilgrimages that both of them have taken over the years! it was so wonderful to see them tell us stories about holy sites and museums where people all over the world go on pilgrimage. Our students had a lot of questions for them 💙💛

One of these stories is about the Mexican Cristero War of the mid-1920s, where 14-year-old José Luis Sánchez del Río was put to death by government officials because he refused to renounce his Catholic faith.."Others recalled the gruesome events that transpired after the government failed to break José's resolve on the evening of February 10, 1928: 'Consequently they cut the bottom of his feet and obliged him to walk around the town toward the cemetery. They also at times cut him with a machete until he was bleeding from several wounds. He cried and moaned with pain, but he did not give in. At times they stopped him and said, 'If you shout, 'Death to Christ the King' we will spare your life'. José would only shout, 'I will never give in. Viva Cristo Rey!'" -wikipedia.org

8^th Pay It Forward Project

Every year, the 8^th graders are assigned to the Pay It Forward Project. Based on the Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25:14-30, each student receives $10.00 and works on a project of their own doing to raise money for their selected charity. The student may work alone or in groups. In the next few weeks, you will see Pay It Forward Projects by the 8^th graders. What a great learning opportunity for our students. 

Know-It-All Knight! THIS EVENING!

Hey BSS families! As part of their Pay It Forward Project, a group of Eighth-graders are hosting a Trivia Night this Friday! We are calling it our Know-It-All Knight! We plan for it to be a fun night for all ages! You may be wondering who this 'we' is. Well, we are a group of 8th graders including: Haniel, Dylan, Yamil, Calleigh Drew, Denise, Marilyn, Jennifer, Danna, and Zaylee. We decided that we will donate all of the money we raise to the American Cancer Society. We are donating to them because of how many families are affected by those who have cancer. Some of our families have been affected by cancer as well whether it be a family friend, an aunt, and uncle, mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent, or a friend. We hope to see all who can make it soon for a fun night of trivia!

Dodgeball Tournament!

A group of ten 8th-grade students will be hosting a dodgeball tournament for their Pay It Forward projects. On Wednesday, April 2 from 2-3 pm, 3rd-5th grade will have their dodgeball tournament on the back lawn. Registration forms will go home in yellow folders and are due the morning of Monday, April 1. Entry is $5 a person and $20 per team (teams of 5). Middle school will have their tournament on Friday, April 11, from 3-4 pm in the gym. Registration forms are due the morning of Thursday, April 10; Entry fee is the same.

Concessions will be sold at both events for cash. The winning teams will receive a prize. All proceeds will go to the No Kid Hungry Charity. Students, teachers, and parents are welcome to watch the tournaments and buy concessions.

Bishop’s Youth Pilgrimage

The Bishop’s Youth Pilgrimage gathers middle and high school youth each spring for a day of hope, fun, and inspiration! The event, hosted by Belmont Abbey and Belmont Abbey College, is a prelude to the fall Eucharistic Congress designed just for young people.

Encounter Jesus through praise and worship, Eucharistic Adoration, talks, and confession. Celebrate our Eucharistic Lord and be inspired to share Christ with others. Then, embark as “Pilgrims of Hope” in an inspirational Eucharistic Procession to close the day.

Pizza BINGO Scheduled! 🍕

The National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring Pizza BINGO next Friday, April 4th! Join us at the Knight’s Castle! The doors will open at 5:30. BINGO will start at 6:00. You can pre-order pizza or bring your own. Water and juice boxes will be provided. BINGO cards and raffle tickets may be pre-ordered and/or purchased the night of the event. We will also have a BAKE SALE! 

All proceeds will benefit the new Middle School playground space!

Campers will do a myriad of activities based on the week’s theme. Going beyond just arts and crafts, children will be able to get hands-on experience with various animals, as well as do a deep dive into their differing environments. Knights of Summer X-STREAM Adventures is available for children aged 3- rising 8th grade. Before and after camp care will be available.

Renew Your NC Opportunity Scholarship

If your child is a recipient of an NC Opportunity Scholarship for the current 2024-2025 school year, make sure you renew the scholarship for the upcoming school year as you will receive priority to receive an award versus new families who are just applying this month. CLICK HERE to review the Award Income Tiers for the 2025-2026 school year. Do not delay and renew as the deadline is April 15th, 2025, and if you miss it, your child will lose the scholarship.

The Diocese of Raleigh is pleased to announce an opportunity for Catholic school families of African American and Native-American heritage for the 2025-2026 school year.

Through our African American and Native American Ancestry Tuition Assistance program, we aim to make Catholic education more accessible to eligible students from preschool through 12th grade. This vital initiative, supported by generous parish donations and a grant from the Black and Indian Mission Office, reflects our commitment to serving diverse communities throughout our diocese.

The 2025-2026 application for the African American and Native American Ancestry Tuition Assistance is now available at https://form.jotform.com/schoolsoffice/2025-26AAMENGrant.

This scholarship program is administered by the Diocese of Raleigh Office of Education.

Catholic school students (Preschool-12th grade) of African Ancestry and Native American heritage in the Diocese of Raleigh are eligible to apply for tuition assistance from February 1 - March 15, 2025.

The assistance awards are funded by parish second collection donations and a grant from the Black and Indian Mission Office founded by the Catholic bishops of the United States. All applicants MUST complete a Catholic school enrollment application before this application will be considered.

Decision letters will be emailed to parents no later than May 24, 2025. 

Tuition awards are sent from the diocese to the applicant’s school.

Please review the 2025-2026 Tuition Rates for the upcoming school year! We have only increased the K-8 Tuition. The Little Knights's tuition, enrollment fee, and STEAMM Fees will remain the same. If you believe that your family will need a scholarship, please apply for an NC Opportunity Scholarship, which will open applications for new families from February 6th to March 6th, 2025. Enrollment Timeline for the 2025-2026 School Year

Families with a scholarship will receive their re-enrollment agreement towards in the next coming weeks. If your family will be adding a sibling, make sure that you let Mr. Rico know so he can add the new student to your contract and reserve his or her seat in the class roster for the upcoming school year. Remember, all new students must apply to our school, and submit a copy of their birth certificate, immunization records, and baptismal certificate if the family is Catholic. Summer Uniforms

Friendly reminder, we will be transitioning to Summer Uniforms on April 7th, 2025!

Winter uniforms begin next Monday, November 4th. Just a few reminders:

1. French Toast items run very differently in sizing from Lands End. Sounds like the tops are much smaller.
2. Review our Uniform Guidelines by CLICKING HERE.
3. If you order any logo items and they are the wrong size, they CANNOT be returned.
4. Orders are arriving in about a week. So if you need new shirts, you should order them as soon as possible to receive them in time.
5. Graham Sporting Goods is the ONLY provider of PE shirts. French Toast will not be offering them.

PE Uniforms:

You can still purchase PE uniforms locally at Graham Sporting Goods. They have yellow PE shirts, solid sweatpants, and zip-up jackets. You do NOT have to get the logo on the sweatpants, but it must be on the jacket and sweatshirt.

PE pants need to be solid navy. There should not be any lines down the sides or decals on them.
