The Life & Art of Charles M. Schulz

"Charles Monroe Schulz brightened the world for over 50 years with his Peanuts comic strip, which debuted October 2, 1950. With Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the lovable Peanuts Gang, Schulz explored the emotional territory of friendship, disappointment, faith, and tolerance. He was an artist and a storyteller who transformed images of everyday life into art that captured the humor, vulnerability, and dignity of the human spirit. Through Peanuts, Schulz connected people everywhere with his drawings and stories, The Life & Art of Charles M. Schulz explores Schulz's personal history and his role as the sole inspiration and artistic talent behind Peanuts and its unique cast of characters." -alamancearts.org

Last Wednesday, November 13th, our 6th-grade class visited the Alamance Arts in Graham, NC to look at the works of Charles M. Schulz, creator of Charlie Brown. The exhibit is open through January 17, 2025.

Tigers 🐅 by 1st graders

1st Grade Standard of Instruction: Use illustrations and details in a story to describe the characters, setting, or events: students describe the characters, settings, or events in a story by using the illustrations and details from the story in their explanations. Our first-grade students read and then wrote about tigers earlier this month and each of them drew their own tigers. The students' work is currently on display just outside their classrooms.

Feels like Fall

Our 2nd-grade students worked on "I Like Fall because..." worksheets where students wrote what they liked the most about Fall. Currently on display just outside their classrooms.

VFW's Patriot's Pen Youth Essay

Each year, nearly 68,800 students in sixth through eighth grades enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of nearly $1 million in state and national awards. Two of our 8th-grade students had an opportunity to have dinner at the local VFW and received an award with a monetary prize for their essays entitled “My Voice in American Democracy”. Congratulations to Carter Fitzgerald who won 3rd place and Calleigh Drew Johnson who won 1st place. We are so proud of you!

Veterans' Day

Little Knights learned about why Blessed Sacrament School was closed yesterday. We talked about family members who served and colored a picture to share with veterans in their lives. We hope all veterans had a blessed day! Thank you for your service! 🇺🇲

Native American Art

Ms. VanWeest Little Knights art students made Native American Art! Preschool made Rain Sticks & PreK students made Drums! Their work is currently on display just outside the staff lounge.

Sleep for Success!

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the proper amount of sleep is detrimental to a child’s health, learning, and mental well-being. Kids aged 6-13 need 9-11 hours of sleep, while teens aged 14-17 need 8-10 hours each night. Screen time before bed can make it harder for kids to fall asleep because it keeps them alert and raises their heart rate. The light from screens can also interfere with melatonin, a hormone that helps aid sleep.
