🐄🐮Moo!! Hilly the Cow Visits BSS!🐮🐄
On Thursday, November 11th in the morning, Hilly the Jersey Dairy Cow came to visit! We are unable to travel for field trips right now, but that's not stopping us from learning outside of the classroom!

We had a wonderful visit from Courtney and her dairy cow, Hilly! We all learned so many interesting facts about dairy cows and nutrition. She also incorporated math and science into her presentation--Did you know that Jersey dairy cows are smaller than most dairy cow breeds and that their milk is much creamier than others? Or that cows have 4 stomachs? Students learned that and even got to see almost 4 gallons of milk that Hilly produced!
This was a free opportunity for our school provided by Southwest Dairy Farms! Their Mobile Dairy Classroom allows for them to visit schools and other events. CLICK HERE for a video of the presentation.

Thank you so much to Courtney, Hilly, and Southwest Dairy Farms!
We'd also like to thank Mr. Victor, Mr. Kevin, and Mrs. Allred for solving some electrical issues and allowing us to see the milking presentation! Moooooo!   🐄🐮
Veterans Day Performance!

We had a beautiful Veterans Day performance and prayer service on Veternas Day 2021 in the afternoon! Thank you to the veterans that were able to be with us for the special ceremony and your service to our country. CLICK HERE to watch the video of the performance.

Our 4th-grade students gave beautiful posters to our veterans and they will be hung at the VFW Building.

Fundraising

Our fundraising efforts are off to a great start! So far, we have 1 Gold level sponsor, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 2 Friends of BSS! In addition, our monthly Dine Outs are averaging $250 profits for our school! We appreciate the continued support from our parents and community.

I always try to make our fundraising opportunities items you might already be purchasing for your family. I have two more ready for you!
Chicken Pie Sale:

Parents requested that I search for more fundraiser events like Olive Garden. You guys loved being able to take food home straight from school. I have a local connection to a lady that makes fresh chicken pies. We are only able to get a total of 30 pies. They are a little pricey, but we will receive $5 per pie sold. If it goes well, we can do this again often. She also makes a few other items we can try.

Click Here for an Order Form. If you know you are going to order, please email me at advancement@bssknights.org! I will not send out printed order forms if all 30 sell quickly--we only have 8 left!
Tired of losing jackets, lunch boxes, and water bottles?? We’ve partnered with Mabel’s Labels! Order their labels and support our school! You can get a set for each child or just order a set with your last name if you have multiple children. The Starter Label Pack seems like a good deal.

Giving Tuesday, a message from Mrs. Fitzgerald:

“GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

On GivingTuesday last year, we shared with our community all of the things we were able to do at school during a pandemic. We were one of the only schools in our area open for in-person learning at that time. We started the day with the lighting of our Christmas tree and a few words from Mrs. Gomez. Throughout the day, we went live on Facebook with some of our classes. By the end of the day, we raised almost $5,000 in donations for our school.

This year, GivingTuesday will be celebrated on November 30th. We plan to share with our community how Blessed Sacrament School has made an impact on our current and former students' lives. Be sure to follow us on Facebook so you can see
students, staff, and alumni share their BSS Story!

Apple Sentences by 1st Grade!

Mrs. Clemmons first grade students taste-tested a variety of apples during Fall. They chose their favorite and wrote sentences to describe that type of apple. Enjoy their writing that is currently on display in the hallway outside their classrooms. The students learned that a sentence is a complete thought that begins with a capital letter and ends with a period. Great job first graders!
Second Grade Self-Portrait Gallery

As part of Mrs. Bost's 2nd-grade lesson for Hispanic Heritage Month, her students learned about Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. They read the book Frida Kahlo and her Animalitos written by Monica Brown. The students looked at several of Frida Kahlo's self-portraits and they watched a video on how to draw their own self-portraits.

Support BSS Retail Cards Sales!
What are Retail Cards? Retail cards are store certificates (plastic cards) that our school purchases at a discount and sells to you at face value for a school profit. The discount given is different with each vendor. BSS has used the profit money in the past for school technology and the current needs of the school.

Why should you buy Retail Cards with BSS?
The profits from this program make up an important part of our fundraising budget. It is an easy and great way to help BSS earn fundraising dollars and not spend an extra dime. Everyone buys groceries and gas, and may occasionally eat out. Before your next trip to the gas station, grocery store, or restaurant, please consider purchasing Retail Cards with us.

Where can I buy these Retail Cards?
You may purchase the Retail Cards in the school office any day during school hours. CLICK HERE to access the order form.
Please make check payable to BSS HSA Scrip. Returned check fee is $35.
Thank you for participating in our school fundraiser.
