☃️🌨️Inclement Weather Ahead!

We have been observing the constantly shifting weather conditions for this weekend. A Winter Storm Watch has been declared in our region starting Saturday afternoon, and we will probably need to cancel or postpone school next week. Kindly await a message from Mrs. Gomez on Sunday. Here are several reminders:

In the event of adverse weather conditions, Blessed Sacrament School will adhere to the instructions issued by the principal. We do not comply with the directives of the Alamance-Burlington School System. Specific inclement weather announcements for Blessed Sacrament School will be made on days when classes are canceled or delayed. Every effort will be made to communicate this information by 6:15 AM. Should there be an early dismissal, details will also be shared through the following channels:

  • Option C: Our automated telephone system will contact the number you provided on your emergency form.
  • Social Media: BSS Facebook

Make sure you are prepared for the storm. Read this article by the News & Observer for more tips.

Master Lee's White Tiger Taekwondo

This week, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, January 21-23, Master Lee's White Tiger Taekwondo visited our elementary school to educate our students about discipline and martial arts. The students had the opportunity to engage in various exercises, and our BSS teachers were there to assist! Thank you, Master Lee and students, for coming to BSS!

Master Lee will host a Free Martial Arts Workshop on Saturday, January 24th at 11 am at his gym (3137 Garden Rd., Burlington, NC 27215), and he will have free pizza for participants afterwards. RSVP via text at 336-269-1263.

Tower of Babel

This week in Religion, 6th graders were given a STEM Challenge! This challenge coincided with our study of the story of the Tower of Babel in the Book of Genesis. Their task was to create a tower that could stand on its own using gumdrops and toothpicks. Each group followed the STEM design process of Explore, Plan, Do, Reflect, and Share. First, we discussed the story and watched a short video to remind us of the details. Then each group was given five minutes to plan a design. Next, they had ten minutes to put their tower together, but they could not talk to each other! After the first try, each group member reflected on what worked and what didn’t work with their tower. Then they had five more minutes to improve their tower - this time they could talk. Most groups discovered that the base of the tower is very important. They also learned that talking to each other made the process much easier!

Pay It Forward Project: UNO!

On January 22nd-23rd, as part of their Pay It Forward project, some of our eighth-grade students organized a game of Uno with tokens. MS Students were able to purchase these tokens and exchange them for prizes. All funds collected will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! Great job, Angelique, Amelia, Daisy, Bella, Melissa, & Daniela!

Special Shirt for Eamon Hipps

On February 25th, we will be remembering Eamon Hipps on his birthday. BSS will hold a Dress Down Day, with any donations going to the Western Alamance Booster Club in Eamon’s remembrance. Graham Sporting Goods has created a simple design for this occasion. An online store has opened if you would like to purchase a short-sleeve, long-sleeve, sweatshirt, or hoodie in a multitude of colors to wear that day (and any other, of course). The store will close on January 30th. Orders will be ready for you to pick up at Graham Sporting Goods 2-3 weeks after the online store closes. Thank you, Mrs. Champion, for setting this up for our community!
