Feliz Día De Los Muertos!

"Skeletons are scary, right? Not if you're celebrating Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. [This Mexican holiday] combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls' Day, a holiday that Spanish invaders brought to Mexico starting in the early 1500s. The holiday, which is celebrated mostly in Mexico on November 1 and 2, is like a family reunion—except dead ancestors are the guests of honor. Day of the Dead is a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory. First, people set up a candlelit altar in their homes so spirits can find their way back to their relatives. The altar also offers some of the favorite foods of the deceased—just in case they get hungry. Items that were important to the ancestors when they were alive, such as a favorite book or musical instrument, are placed on the altar as well."-National Geographic Kids

This morning, Friday, November 3rd, Blessed Sacrament School held two prayer services in honor of Dia de los Muertos, remembering all of those loved ones who are no longer with us and are in Heaven. We had one in our main campus and another in our middle School. We would like to thank Mrs. Nora, Mr. Kevin, and the Parents who came to put together our Altar de Muertos. Mrs. Kennedy & Mr. James for singing and the teachers and students who led us in prayer. It is always nostalgic to hear them sing, Remember Me. Thank you.

All Saint's Day Mass

"All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on November 1. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven. Although millions or even billions of people may already be saints, All Saints' Day observances tend to focus on known saints --that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church." -Catholic.org

Last Wednesday, November 1st, we celebrated All Saints' Day mass with Fr. Vincent, who talked to our students about the different Saints who are in heaven and to whom we pray to help us in our daily lives. We would like to give a special thanks to Mr. James for preparing our students and to the students who sang and read the scriptures. It was a wonderful mass.

Teacher & Staff Spotlight

This school year has brought many changes to Blessed Sacrament School. For the first time in over a decade, we have several double classes and we are blessed to be able to hire more teachers. We want our school community to get to know our teachers and staff better, so we have chosen to bring back our Teacher & Staff Spotlight. We will feature a teacher or staff member with their short bio and interesting facts about them every week. This week we are introducing one of our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Christie Cruz Rivera

Mrs. Christie Cruz is from Puerto Rico. She has been living in the US for the past 12 years with her beautiful family, which has grown over time, now consisting of 5 and 1 dog named Potter. She shares with us:

My daughters have been attending Blessed Sacrament School since 2017, and this year, the youngest of the family starts preschool. We are a military family that left our Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico. Thanks to military life, we have been able to live in different states like NC, GA, AL, and TX, which has allowed us to experience cultural diversity and make friends all over the world. After my husband medically retired from the military, we returned to NC for his new job. This decision provided us with more stability, especially for our children's education.

I am a graduate of the University of Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico, with a Bachelor's degree in Arts with a concentration in journalism, and a Master's degree in Public Relations. I also hold a certification from Curtin University, Australia, in Reputation Management in a Digital World.

Seeing the love and respect I have for education and the cultural diversity to which our family has been exposed, I decided to start my studies at Alamance Community College in 2019. I began with Early Childhood Associate, and my interest in continuing my education has led me to complete my degree at UNCG, Birth Through Kindergarten Teacher Licensure. I also aspire to pursue certification to become a Spanish teacher for the state of North Carolina, allowing me to contribute more to the education of our children.

Blessed Sacrament School has given me the opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside an excellent faculty. We never stop learning something new every day, and if I can be a bridge for children to develop a love for school, it will be with the help of God.

Lost & Found

Lost items are already starting to accumulate in both buildings. Last year the amount of items in the Lost & Found at the end of the year was overwhelming! We do not have the space to keep these items for long periods of time. This year, we will be donating/purging items that aren't labeled every Friday!

PLEASE label all items! We will make every effort to return lost items to their owners. If they are not labeled, they will be placed in the Lost & Found. On Friday afternoons, clothing and jackets will be donated to the Swap Shop. Water bottles, lunch boxes, and all other items will be thrown away.

Mabel's Labels are a great way to help us return your children's lost items!

You are welcome to come inside to look in the Lost & Found anytime!

Thank you for understanding!

Objetos perdidos y encontrados

We have new Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year. We would love to help promote your business, while you support our school!

Money raised during the 2022-2023 school year was used for several major and unexpected expenses. We are in the process of replacing our 26-year-old Fire Alarm System at the Main Campus. We also replaced and repaired flooring in several areas of the building. A few rooms also received new paint!

Due to increased enrollment, we purchased 100 new Chromebooks for our students. None of these things would have been possible without the support of our community!

Need-based Scholarships

Limited need-based scholarship funding is available for the Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program. To be considered for a scholarship, students must complete the scholarship section of the general application. Information from the previous year’s W-2 is required. We advise students to apply early, as scholarship funding is often depleted by January.

Make it a Christmas to remember!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....the season is changing, leaves are falling and soon Santa will be on his way to visit with us at York's Studio.

We are so excited about our Experience the Magic sessions with Santa this year. The elves have made the trip and started whipping up their magic to create an experience to remember for a lifetime.
