They even gave all of the students a flag to take home! Thank you for visiting and for your service Veterans!

Eight Grade Visits Cristo Rey Research Catholic High School

On Friday, November 17th, Mrs. Champion, Mrs. Kearney, and Mr. Rico took our eighth-grade students to visit Cristo Rey Research Catholic High School at the Durham Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC. The students spend half of the day with Cristo Rey's student ambassadors, teachers, and staff. President Jeb Meyers and Director of Admissions Martha Zaldivar, talked to our students about Cristo Rey's history, AP classes, and the work-study program. One of the things that stood out to the students currently attending is the ability to work with different companies around the Research Triangle area. Check them out next time you are in the Durham area!

On Wednesday, November 15th, our students had an out-of-uniform day and we asked them to bring in a Thanksgiving food item for the food pantry. Thank you to the families who were able to send an item in! Our 4th-grade classes were tasked to take them to the food pantry. Thank you for your support!

Morning Drop-off-Part I-Middle School

Last Thursday, 11/9, (515) there was an incident during drop-off. Words that were not Christian-like were used. That is not the BSS way. We teach your children to be kind and get along with one another. As I tell the students- tolerance, grace and kindness go a long way. Please be patient with each other.

Morning Drop-off-Part II-Elementary School

There have been several near accidents as cars are entering and exiting the parking lot. The traffic pattern is to enter from High Street and exit at Hillcrest. Thank you.

Gracias.

Sourdough Bread

We would like to thank our student's (Brody Tirgrath) grandmother for baking our middle school teachers sourdough bread! It was delicious! Thank you very much for your generosity. These kinds of acts are always appreciated and go a long way in our teachers and staff's daily routine 💙💛

Teacher & Staff Spotlight

This school year has brought many changes to Blessed Sacrament School. For the first time in over a decade, we have several double classes and we are blessed to be able to hire more teachers. We want our school community to get to know our teachers and staff better, so we have chosen to bring back our Teacher & Staff Spotlight. We will feature a teacher or staff member with their short bio and interesting facts about them every week. This week we are introducing one of our Kindergarten Teacher Assistants, Mrs. Rubi Flores

Here is what Mrs. Flores shared with us:

Hi, my name is Rubi Flores. I am a devoted Catholic and a dog lover. I have a wonderful family of four, including my husband Daniel, our kids Aiden and Andrea, and our four-legged friend Skye.

Before coming to Blessed Sacrament, I was in the telecommunications business, which allowed me to work from home. While I enjoyed the flexibility, nothing compares to being able to work close to my children. In the short time of being a teacher assistant, I’ve grown a deeper respect for educators and hope to be just as great as my peers.

My family originates from Guanajuato, Mexico, a city known for its largest exhibition of mummies in Latin America. My husband Daniel is from Honduras where the sun always shines. I have a deep appreciation for my Mexican heritage as well as other cultures.

In my free time, I love going to the beach during the summer and exploring the mountains during the fall. The breathtaking views and beautiful colors of the leaves bring me so much joy. They remind me that change is always beautiful and each leaf is made uniquely just like all of us.

When it comes to coffee, my favorite is the toasty oats from Salvation Coffee. And when I want to do some shopping, I enjoy going to Target and TJ Maxx.

One of my favorite hobbies is decorating, and I also enjoy cooking (although I'm not a big fan of the cleaning part that comes after!).

Birthday: November 19

My favorite places to eat: Mykonos, Chic fil A, Taco Azteca

My favorite place to get coffee: Salvation coffee

My favorite thing for breakfast: Crepes

My coffee order is: Iced toasty oats

I love to shop at: Target, Tjmaxx, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby.

My favorite colors: Black and white

My favorite candy/snack is: Dark chocolate, Herseys, Hot teas, cold press juices, coke

Pep Squad

We are excited for BSS Pep Squad to start next week. Thank you to Coaches Cruz, Groh, Martinez and Tukov for leading our Pep Squad this year. Pep Squad members should wear their PE uniforms and sneakers on practice days. Pickup from practice will be at the front door of Main Campus on Hillcrest. Please park in the side parking lot or out front and go to the front door to retrieve your student. Students not picked up by 4:10 pm will be sent to aftercare. If your student needs to go to aftercare when practice is over, please email the front office or Tracy Miller at athletics@bssknights.org

Thank you,

Tracy Miller, Co-Athletic Director

Competition Cheer Parents,

After practice this week, it was determined that we are going to need to reinstate two practices a week in order to be prepared for Shamrock. Practices will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. It is very important for cheerleaders to be at practice. This is a team sport and when someone is out, it impacts the whole group. It would be beneficial for cheerleaders who are injured to attend practice even if they can't participate, so they know about any changes made to the routine. We understand that emergencies and illnesses happen, and gladly support those absences. Please contact one of the coaches if this is the case. These absences will be excused. That being said, all students to be at practice, we need them to be there. Thanks for your help!

Mrs. Spradlin and Mrs. Tichy

Sra Spradlin y Sra. Tichy

Money raised during the 2022-2023 school year was used for several major and unexpected expenses. We are in the process of replacing our 26-year-old Fire Alarm System at the Main Campus. We also replaced and repaired flooring in several areas of the building. A few rooms also received new paint!

Due to increased enrollment, we purchased 100 new Chromebooks for our students. None of these things would have been possible without the support of our community!
