8th Grade Commissioning
This morning, Friday, September 2nd, all of our students and staff walked over to the Lady of the Angels Center to witness our 8th Grade Students get commissioned as Servant Leaders of our school!

"Servant leadership begins wherever one is – at home with family, at work with colleagues, in the classroom, on the road with other drivers. It is consideration of others and showing kindness, a willingness to try and understand. To lead as a servant means to put the needs of others first." -by Theresa Nixon, Catholic Servant Leadership and the Golden Rule.

The Cookie Stall

Over the summer, our 1st-grade students read the book “The Cookie Stall (Art)” by Jonathan Litton. They read and discussed their book with Mrs. Allred and Mrs. Lee this week. Students made beautiful posters to help “sell” cookies! They were so excited to see everything on display! 🍪
The Magnificent Makers!

Over the summer, our 2nd-grade students read the book titled "The Magnificent Makers; How to Test A Friendship" by Theanne Griffith. They read and discussed their book with Mrs. Bost this week. Later, our 2nd graders along with their 7th-grade STREAM Buddies worked on creating a boat out of aluminum foil paper that would float and carry pennies! We saw some designs that carried over 60 coins! Well done Knights!
6th Grade & Kindergarten STREAM buddies

Our Kindergarten class also worked this past week with their STREAM buddies in 6th grade. The students always have so much fun learning together.
Author Stacy McAnulty to visit BSS!

On Thursday, September 22- Stacy McAnulty will visit BSS. She is the author of The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl, the summer reading book for middle school.

"Stacy McAnulty is a children’s book author, who used to be a mechanical engineer, who’s also qualified to be a paleontologist (NOT REALLY), a correspondent for The Daily Show (why not), and a Green Bay Packer coach (totally!). She is the 2017 Ezra Jack Keats New Writer Honor Recipient for Excellent Ed, illustrated by Julia Sarcone-Roach. Her other picture books include Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years, illustrated by David Litchfield; Brave and Beautiful, both illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff; Mr. Fuzzbuster Knows He’s the Favorite, illustrated by Edward Hemingway; and 101 Reasons Why I’m Not Taking a Bath, illustrated by Joy Ang. She’s also authored the chapter book series Goldie Blox, based on the award-winning toys, and The Dino Files. Her debut middle-grade novel, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl, was published in 2018. When not writing, Stacy likes to listen to NPR, bake triple-chocolate cupcakes, and eat triple-chocolate cupcakes. Originally from upstate NY, she now lives in Kernersville, NC with her 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 husband." -goodreads.com
Preschool Playing with Playdough

This morning, Thursday, September 1st, Mrs. Asmar & Mrs. Corradini's preschool students worked on developing their motor skills with playdough. Earlier this week, the students used a glue stick and scissors to paste paper outlining the first letter of their names.
Marvelous Me

Last week, Mrs. Clemmon's first-grade students read the book titled Marvelous Me by Lisa Bullard. The students talked about all the things that make them unique and marvelous. Then they drew pictures to represent some of their favorite things.
9/11 Prayer Service

Dear Parents & Grandparents,

Next Friday, September 9th at 9:30 am, we are planning to have our annual 9/11 Prayer Service in honor of all the lives that were lost that tragic day. If you witnessed that day and would like to come and talk to our students about your experience, please let us know! We would love to have you. We will also invite first responders to the service and will give out coffee and donuts.

Please contact Mrs. Kearney at ckearney@bssknights.org if you would like to attend and share with our students.
Middle School Electives

Do you have a special skill or talent? Maybe you play chess, know how to knit, or are very good at cooking or photography and have always wanted to share it with others. Now is your chance!

We are looking for parents, grandparents, or aunts/uncles who would like to teach our students an elective class on their special talent(s). It would be for about an hour every Friday for 10 weeks this Fall. If you know anyone who wants to teach the students. Please let Mrs. Kearney know by sending an email to ckearney@bssknights.org.
Halloween Party Sign-ups🎃

Halloween is coming up soon and preparations must be made for class parties. This year they will be on the back lawn. This will allow parents to join us! To make it easier for students to transport their snacks outside, please send in items that we can quickly put into bags or treat boxes.

We have scheduled a tentative XC meet at home (1620 Hanford Rd, Graham, NC 27253) on Wednesday, September 24th at 4 pm. Our first official XC Away Meet will take place on Friday, September 30th at 4 pm at SH (385 Lumen Christi Lane, Salisbury, NC 28147).

Each week we will have "Sunday Funday Runs" at various locations. We value family time so these practices are open to all XC family members. It is important that the kids have opportunities to run on trails so they are ready for any meets. Please sign up to lead a Sunday Funday Run!
