Happy MLK Jr Day!
Martin Luther King Jr Day is on Monday!

Martin Luther King Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January — on January 16 this year. King was an influential civil rights leader — best known for his work on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States. His life and achievements are remembered and celebrated on this day. Remember, we will not have school Monday as we remember MLK Jr.!

Interesting Facts:
  • On February 11, 1958, King visited Bennett College located in Greensboro, NC and gave a notable speech.
  • King’s first visit to Raleigh, NC was in April 1960 to support the Students Nonviolent Coordinating Committee at Shaw University.
  • The NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources found evidence that Dr. King delivered an early version of the famous “I Have A Dream” speech at a school gymnasium in Rocky Mount, NC on Nov. 27, 1962.
  • King spoke to an integrated audience of ~5,000 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh on July 31, 1966. Read about his visit here

Parent Cognia Survey

Dear Parents,
As part of our re-accreditation, we are in need of our parents to share about their experience here at Blessed Sacrament School. If you have time this weekend, please consider filling a survey out. We will need them by Monday, January 16. Thank you.  https://eprovesurveys.advanc-ed.org/surveys/#/action/212657/26181

Estimados padres,

BSS Updates

Unfortunately, many students continue to not follow the uniform policy- no belt, no ties, and incorrect PE uniforms. So beginning on Monday, January 9th, elementary students (1st-4th) without the correct uniform will miss 5 minutes of recess.
MS teachers will enforce the infraction policy

Once again, there has been an increase in parents dropping off their child/ren in the parking lot instead of waiting in line. Let's adhere to the school policy. In order to speed off morning drop-off, children can be dropped off before the front steps. If your car has past the school parking lot exit, it is safe to drop students off. There is a teacher outside watching the students walk into the building.

Thank you for your cooperation!
Students go to Subway!

On Tuesday, January 10th, our 6th-grade students took their Kindergarten STREAM buddies on a field trip to Subway! They were able to tour the restaurant and kitchen area. Students even received a free cookie after the tour! Thank you to the Nasrawin family for the invitation and hospitality!

**Please click HERE for a message from Mrs. Spradlin and Mrs.Tichy.**

Congratulations to all of those students that made the 2022-2023 Competition Cheer Team!

If your family decides to accept the position on the cheer team the following commitments are required:

  • Cheer Expo @ Williams High School - Saturday, January 14, 2023 CANCELLED
  • New Year Cheer Classic @ Immaculata Catholic School in Durham, NC on Saturday, January 21st, 2023
  • Shamrock Tournament @ Charlotte Catholic High School February 17-19, 2023
  • Practices on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 in the Knight Castle. We are aware that certain conflicts may arise from time to time and are willing to work with you on a case-by-case basis, especially in the beginning. Because there are many BSS activities, our intention is to give you a calendar with specific practice dates that work around school events ASAP. We ask that you be flexible around competition time as we might need to add extra practice if we are struggling with a particular skill or part of the routine.
  • We would like each girl to bring a change of clothes, sturdy shoes, a water bottle, and a yoga mat (to be kept at school) to practice. If you don’t have a yoga mat it can be purchased at Five Below or Walmart for $5-$10.

I am sure other questions will arise as we move forward, Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Kelly Spradlin (kspradlin@bssknights.org)

We are looking forward to a great season!! Go, Knights!!!
