Celebrating Black History Month

Celebrated from February 1st through March 1st, "Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of 'Negro History Week,' the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history."-history.com

Here at Blessed Sacrament School, we have been celebrating with different activities. Our 6th-grade students have been learning about Black Saints, elementary school teachers have been teaching our students about Black History Month in their social studies lessons, and our 8th graders will be visiting the International Civil Rights Center & Museum in Greensboro, NC, on March 19th.

We also mourn the death of Civil Rights Leader "Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Baptist minister and two-time presidential candidate whose booming oratory and populist message propelled the Civil Rights Movement in the decades after the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., died Tuesday, February 17th." -NBCNews.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten Season, which culminates at Easter. This past Wednesday, February 18th, we held a special Mass with Fr. Vincent, where all of our students and staff were able to receive ashes on their foreheads. We want to give a special thanks to all of the students and staff who prepared us for this special day.

In Memory of Eamon Hipps

Next Wednesday, February 25th, is Eamon Hipps's birthday, and to honor his memory, Blessed Sacrament School students, teachers, and staff will be wearing a special shirt prepared by Graham Sporting Goods. Part of the money raised from the sale of the shirts will be donated to Western Alamance High School Athletic Boosters. Thank you to the organizers and Graham Sporting Goods for coordinating the sale of the shirts for our community. If you did not purchase one, we ask you to come in pink. If you take pictures, please tag @graham_sporting_goods , @hipstermob , and @eamon.hipps as Graham Sporting Goods will be compiling them into a memory book to give to the Hipps family and the WAHS Athletics.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

As we start our first week of the Lenten Season, let us remember the words of our late Pope Francis: in 2026, he called for a "fast" from hurtful words, slander, and judgmental language, focusing on compassionate communication. May our Lenten journey strengthen our relationship with God.
