School Mass

Today, Friday, August 23rd, we celebrated our first school mass of the 2024-2025 school year. Fr. Vincent talked to our students about God's Commandments and he asked all of our students to love one another and to not bully others either.

We would like to welcome Mr. Anthony Cancro as the new Music Director for Blessed Sacrament Church. He will be working with our students to prepare for our weekly mass. We would like to give a special thanks to the middle school teachers for reading and our altar boys for helping out today.

Congratulations Golf Team!

Right after mass, Mrs. Gomez congratulated the BSS Golf team for the last Spring season as they placed 3rd on the PECSAA League! Congratulations students for a great job done!

5th Grade had a wonderful first day!

All of your kiddos did an amazing job today--very polite and respectful! We are very excited about this year!

Mr. Hill and Mrs. Bolen

8th Grade Service Day

Last Friday, August 16th, we welcomed our newest Servant-Leaders to Blessed Sacrament School. A Servant-leader seeks to identify and work with the will of the group! They seek to listen respectfully and to help the group do what needs to be done…..

The Teachers and Staff want to thank our 8th Graders for their hard work, laughter, and teamwork as they helped them get ready to open the doors for our younger Knights and their Families.

Executive Functioning

This year 4th-8th grades will have a “new” class called executive functioning, taught by Mrs. Champion.

What is Executive Functioning?

Executive Functioning Skills simply put are the LIFE SKILLS all people need to be successful - successful academically, socially, athletically and emotionally, as children, teens and adults. They are not innate. Parents function as their children’s Executive Functioning skills when they are young. We do the soothing, the problem-solving, the planning, the prioritizing, the scheduling. As children develop, these tasks fall more and more onto the child independently. These skills must be practiced for all people to become self-sufficient. They include:

Self-Regulation

Self-Control

Self-Monitoring

Self-Awareness

Emotional Regulation

Impulse Control

Sportsmanship/Teamwork/Cooperation/Collaboration

Accountability

Hygiene, Flexible Thinking (Cognitive Flexibility)

Working Memory

Task Initiation

Test Taking Strategies

Planning

Prioritizing

Basic Protocol

Common Courtesy

Social Graces and Etiquette

Respect for Teachers/Staff/Subs /Visitors/Priests

Hand Shaking

Greetings

Introductions

Proper Emails

Thank You Cards

Sincere Apologies

This Week’s Executive Functioning Tip: Every Paper Has a Home! No paper should be floating in your desk, in your locker, in your bookbag - find its home in the proper folder or binder to stay organized and be successful!

Some friendly reminders:

  • Dismissal for both campuses is at 3 pm this upcoming school year. Elementary school starts at 7:45am and middle school at 7:55am.
  • Please note of a dismissal time change every Wednesday beginning on September 11 for both campuses. To have more professional time with the faculty/staff, and in the fact that we do not have teacher workdays, dismissals on Wednesday will be at 1:45pm. Schedules were created to make sure students would not lose one hour of academic instruction of core classes. Students will be dismissed at 1:45. At two o’clock, students not picked up will go directly to afterschool. Students already enrolled in afterschool will have no extra fee for the extra hour.
  • Make sure that you review our Club Knight Afterschool Care Services and CLICK HERE to sign your child up for afterschool care services.
  • CLICK HERE to access a welcome letter Mrs. Gomez sent on August 9th introducing our 2024-2025 School Faculty.

Algunos recordatorios amistosos:

Summer Uniforms

Friendly reminder, we will be wearing our Summer Uniforms once we start the new school year!

Summer uniforms begin next Wednesday, August 21. Just a few reminders:

  1. French Toast items run very differently in sizing from Lands End. Sounds like the tops are much smaller.
  2. Review our Uniform Guidelines by CLICKING HERE.
  3. If you order any logo items and they are the wrong size, they CANNOT be returned.
  4. Orders are arriving in about a week. So if you need new shirts, you should order them as soon as possible to receive them in time.
  5. Graham Sporting Goods is the ONLY provider of PE shirts. French Toast will not be offering them.
