Thank you to our parents, students, and staff for making Valentine’s Day so special!
Student Council Valentine's Raffle:

Last year, the Otero family secured a large donation of Valentine's Day stuffed animals for our school. Many students took the smaller ones home as summer reading buddies last year. We still have 4 very large stuffed animals that need a home! Students were invited to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of these stuffed animals! Take a look at the picture of the winners!
The Student Council Raffle Sale made $215.50! So far, they have raised $1,184.00. Their goal is to raise enough money to repave the school parking lot and blacktops. If any of our parents know someone who can give us a quote to do this job, please let me know!

Our NJHS Carnation Sale earned a profit of approximately $550! These funds will be used to refurbish the school bathrooms. Students will begin making their repair list and purchasing supplies. Thank you for your support of this new fundraiser!

As a parent, I am looking forward to my first Shamrock Tournament experience this weekend! Our varsity basketball teams and cheerleaders will be participating in the tournament in Charlotte this weekend! We’d love for our BSS fans to join us! A schedule of events is attached.

Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, March 1st

Mardi Gras at BSS!

Students are invited to wear Purple, Gold, and Green! This is a FREE out-of-uniform day. We will also have parades! Parents are invited to attend!

Starting Tuesday, February 22nd, our 8th-grade students will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to be the King or Queen of the Mardi Gras parade! All money raised will go to the Guido family. Their daughter is one of our 8th-grade students. She is currently waiting for a kidney donation. Please keep her family in your prayers.
Monday, March 14th

Pi Day!

Our Math Club is working with Mrs. Hipps and Mrs. Worley to make plans for our 2nd Annual Pi Day! Like last year, there will be a Pi Bee for students in 3rd - 8th grade. They will share all of the important information very soon!

12:00 - Students will also have the opportunity to throw a pie in a teacher's face! Join us on the back lawn for the event!
Thursday, March 17th

St. Patrick’s Day

Students are invited to wear GREEN! Students who participate should bring Easter candy for the Little Portions Food Pantry.

We will have small class parties with a few snacks (not our normal parties).

Hopefully, the bagpiper who joined us last year will be able to return. We are still trying to confirm his schedule. Party times and entertainment time will be announced soon.

Remembering Michael Schmiederer

Blessed Sacrament School is deeply saddened by the news of Michael Schmiederer’s passing. He was a parent and a great supporter of our school’s mission. During the time his son Garrett attended BSS, Michael worked assiduously serving on the committee to revitalize BSS. He accepted the position of school board president and we worked as a team to ensure that Blessed Sacrament School’s purpose would continue forever. Even after Garrett graduated, Jodean and Mike continued being friends of the school.
It was an honor to have known such a great person and we will truly miss him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this trying time and may our prayers serve as a comfort to the family.

Tracking the Winter Olympics

Mrs. Champion and her 7th-grade Homeroom students have been learning about and following the Winter Olympics. They set up a chart to track the medals each country wins in all of the events. Each student was assigned a country and is responsible for recording their medals. They also had to make the flag and voting bucket for their country.

Other classes are invited to look at the chart and vote for the country they feel will win the most medals! Team 7 even came up with interactive questions for others students to answer! Mrs. Bost and her 2nd-grade students visited this week. On Tuesday, February 15th, the 7th-grade class decided to test their skills at curling. They worked in the Makerspace to find ways to recreate the sport.

Two Elementary Track Coaches are Needed!
Grades K-4

This is a super fun way to get involved in BSS athletics! Track is the only competitive sport we have for elementary school kids and we are proud to be able to offer it!

Coaches must be available to practice after school 1-2 days per week (3-4:15) and Sunday afternoon at Williams track. Sunday practice will be a combined practice with the middle school team and coaches (provided we have access to the track).

Plan stations/ activities for grades K-4 to include broad jump, running races, and relays for practices.

Must be available to coach for the final PECCSA track meet on May 15 (tentative) at Bishop McGuiness High School in Kernersville.

We will have a meeting and provide training to all coaches prior to the start of the season so you are set up for success! The season begins the first week of March and ends at the PECCSA track meet.

Must be fully vaccinated to coach at BSS.

Please email if you're interested!

UPDATE: We are in need of a Spring Tennis coach. Tennis is open to 5th-8th grade boys and girls. Although we allow 5th graders to be a part of our team, practice and play, their matches do not count when we are competing. Tennis matches take place on Fridays, and once we have a volunteer to coach we can work out which day we will practice. Practices will be after school on a certain day until 4:30. Please let me know if you are interested. If we do not have a coach we will not have a team.

Thanks,

Reocurring Information for Parents
Middle School Parents,

This is year's Spring Sing will be Friday, May 20th at St. Mark's Church. One of the songs we will be performing is from the movie Sister Act. In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, Middle School Students will be watching Sister Act during our class time this week. They have been working very hard on the music, and I think this will be an activity they will all enjoy.

Kelly Spradlin, MS Chorus Teacher
Important BSS Reminders:

  • If it is sunny and the wind chill is not below freezing (we have guidelines), the children will go outside, especially during recess. Please make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.

  • If school is delayed/closed due to bad weather, you will receive a phone call by 6:05 am. through Option C. BSS does not follow the directives of the Alamance-Burlington School System. If there is no notification of closing or delay, parents should assume that we are open. However, we encourage all members of our community to use their best judgment when determining whether or not travel is safe and to proceed carefully.

  • While COVID vaccination is not required by BSS, we encourage all students to obtain a vaccination. Vaccinations help students avoid serious illness and the 10-day quarantine if exposed.

NCDHHS has updated the StrongSchools NC Toolkit isolation and quarantine guidance to align with updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which outlines what individuals should do if they contract or are exposed to COVID-19 to help slow the spread to others.

Blessed Sacrament School will adhere to the 10 days of isolation depending on the child’s vaccination status.

CLICK HERE to read the letter sent to parents.
