Happy Retirement Mrs. Libera!
Last Thursday, March 3rd, was Mrs. Libera's last day at Blessed Sacrament School. After 20 years of service, Mrs. Patricia Libera has decided to retire and we will miss her!

Here is Mrs. Libera's bio from two years ago:

Originally from Auburn, NY, Mrs. Pat Libera started to work for Blessed Sacrament school back in 2003. She is celebrating her [20th] year with us! Mrs. Libera first started as a parent of BSS and then as a Kindergarten assistant and later made her way to become our trusted and reliable Office Administrator. When asked what she does, she answers, "Anything and Everything the teachers and Mrs. Gomez need." She also shares that what she loves most about working for Blessed Sacrament School are the students, faculty, and staff, "This is the best place to work, ever!"

Mrs. Libera attended Auburn Community College and attained an Associate's in Early Childhood Education. She later moved to Durham, NC in 1980 and attended Durham Tech where she took courses in Administration for Day Care. A fun fact about Mrs. Libera is that she has not eaten red meat since 1974!

Mrs. Libera is married to Joe Libera and they have 4 children: Domnnic, Hannah, (twins), Jacob, and Theresa. They are all AlumnKnights! When she is not working, Mrs. Libera enjoys gardening and houseplants, mending & sewing, completing puzzles, cooking, swimming, spending time with family & friends and just "chillaxing."

Here is a message from Mrs. Gomez, "It is with mixed feelings that we announce the retirement of our beloved and much appreciated, Mrs. Libera. Her last working day [was] Thursday, March 2. She has been an integral part of Blessed Sacrament School for the last 20 years. We thank her for her service as the Kindergarten assistant, as well as the Kindergarten Religion teacher. For the last twelve years, she has been the friendly face of our office. We thank her for her hard work and commitment to our school. As she closes this chapter in her life, we wish her the best as she embarks on her next journey in her life."
We wish you the best in your retirement, Mrs. Libera! Come back and see us soon! We love you! 💙💛

𝜫 Day Info

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about math, and eat pie.

The Knights have been working hard studying the first 300 digits of Pi (WOW) and on Friday, March 10, students in grades 3 through 8, will demonstrate how all their hard work has paid off by participating in Blessed Sacrament School’s third-annual Pi Bee!

Our recently reestablished Athletic Booster Club is planning its first annual BSS Golf Tournament! We hope to see many Blessed Sacrament School families, friends, and alumni! All money raised at the golf tournament will directly benefit athletics at our school. All teams need new uniforms and equipment.

Golf Tournament & Auction! 🏌⛳

BSS is bringing back its largest fundraiser for the year and making it even bigger by adding the first-ever Golf Tournament. We need help from all of our students and families to really make this a success.

We're bringing back the class-themed baskets for elementary school and asking the middle school to help with beverage donations for the golf event.

Elementary
Little Knights thru 4th grade please support in the building of a themed basket to be auctioned off. A box will be provided for each classroom to collect items for their class. So students can bring the items to class for their theme. Planning members will collect the items and make the baskets for the auction. If you have new items around the house you would like to donate for another class basket, you may donate these items as well. The bigger the basket the better it will do at the Auction!

Below is the list of grades and your themes. To help support donation items we have created a SignUp Genius for each theme. Any item fitting the theme is welcome, it doesn't have to be on the list. Monetary donations for items are great as well.

All items are due 3/4/2022 for assembly and preparations of the auction.
Elementary Theme Signup Links
Middle School
BSS is having its first-ever fundraising golf tournament. One of the ways we are raising money that day is with the sale of beverages from the beverage golf cart. If you are not familiar with golf, during a round of golf there is a special golf cart that will drive hole to hole selling beverages to those who are playing. We have an agreement with the golf course to be able to use the cart. Therefore 100% of the product sold off that cart would go toward the Athletic Booster Club. We need your help to stock the cart! Sports drinks, bottled water, soda, etc. The only requirement is NO GLASS containers or bottles. It must be canned or plastic.

A SignUp Genius has been created to help ensure a variety of options for golfers. All donations can be turned into the office.

ALL Students and Families 🏌⛳
A big portion of our fundraising success for the golf outing will be in the sale of raffle tickets. After the round of golf is over, we will be raffling off as many items as we can collect in donations.
How can you help? Donation of items! The only criterion is that it must be new / never used items. They can be items with company logos or without. Here is an example of some items to consider:
If you work for a company that has giveaway items, those work great too! Free marketing for them and supports our fundraiser. It really can be any new item for a prize. So check your closet and drawers to see if you have anything new that will not be used. If you have any questions about any items please email Holly Groh at holly.r.groh@gmail.com. Donations can be made to the office. Thank you for your support in making this event a success!

FUFU!

Mrs. Spradlin's Seventh Grade social studies students wrapped up their unit on Africa with a special treat. Last Thursday, March 2nd, Mrs. Gardiner made an authentic African Chicken soup and Fufu for the class to try! She explained how Fufu, a West African staple, was traditionally made. Fufu is traditionally eaten with the fingers, and a small ball of it can be dipped into an accompanying soup or sauce. The students really enjoyed it. Thank you Mrs. Gardiner for sharing it with our students!
7th & 8th Grade Students Visit the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum

Last Tuesday, February 28, our seventh & eighth-grade students visited the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum and thoroughly enjoyed their visit!

"Founded in 1902 by Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, Palmer Memorial Institute transformed the lives of more than 2,000 African American students. Today, the campus provides the setting where visitors can explore this unique environment where boys and girls lived and learned during the greater part of the 20th century. The museum links Dr. Brown and Palmer Memorial Institute to the larger themes of African American history, women's history, social history, and education, emphasizing the contributions African Americans made in North Carolina."
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from Monday, March 20th- Friday, March 24th in Multi-purpose Room at school.

Remember that you can use an eWallet again this year—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Good luck Charlie!

Our 8th grade students had the honor of hosting a foreign exchange student from Panama over the last 5 weeks. Carlos (nickname Charlie) recently finished 8th grade. He told his parents he wanted to experience a Catholic School in the United States over his summer break. They have family in the area and made arrangements for him to attend BSS!

From day one, he jumped right and joined all the fun! He was here to experience Catholic Schools Week, basketball season, a Valentine’s Dance, a pep rally, field trips, classmates birthday celebrations, a Mardi Gras parade, Ash Wednesday, and so much more! He even celebrated his birthday with us!

We are so thankful for the time we had with Charlie! Please send him prayers for safe travels home tomorrow and as he begins high school next week! 💛🙏🏻💙

Mrs. Gomez
From the Office of Admissions
Dear Parents,

The admissions office is in the process of preparing to send out re-enrollment contracts for the following school year to our returning students/families. We are proud to announce that there will be no increase in tuition rates for the 2023-2024 school year! Please, review a letter from Mrs. Gomez by CLICKING HERE. You can review our enrollment timeline by CLICKING HERE.

Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year for returning families will begin on January 23, 2022. All existing families who have not requested financial aid in the past will start to receive an enrollment contract via DocuSign. Space is very limited for rising K, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th graders, and priority will be given to all returning families. Please do not delay in signing a contract once you receive it to secure a spot for your child. After signing, the system will ask you to pay the $265.00 enrollment fee. Review the letter above for deadlines. You will receive an email from FACTS once Mr. Rico sets up your automatic tuition payment drafts if you choose to pay via this option.

If a family would like to add a new student/sibling, please let Mr. Rico know so he can adjust your contract accordingly. Remember, we will need the following documents for all new students:
  • Copy of the student's birth certificate
  • Copy of the student's immunization records
  • If the family is Catholic, a copy of the student's certificate of baptism.

Contracts for families requesting financial aid will be sent after their applications for aid have been processed and a scholarship amount is known. This will be communicated around March 31.

If you have any questions about this process, you can contact Mr. Rico.

PE Uniforms:

You can still purchase PE uniforms locally at Graham Sporting Goods. They have yellow PE shirts, solid sweatpants, and zip-up jackets. You do NOT have to get the logo on the sweatpants, but it must be on the jacket and sweatshirt.

PE pants need to be solid navy. There should not be any lines down the sides or decals on them.

Let me know if you have any Winter Uniform questions!

Thanks,

From the Office of Advancement
We have new Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2022-2023 school year.

We'd love to help promote your business, while you support our school!

In addition to keeping our tuition as low as possible, donations during the 2021-2022 school year allowed us to do the following:

  • Purchase new picnic tables for our deck and outdoor classroom
  • Replace our back deck
  • Purchase new cafeteria tables
  • Paint many areas of the building
  • Replace flooring in a few classrooms
  • Purchase new desks & chairs for a few classrooms

If you or someone you know owns a business and would like to partner with our school, contact us today!
