School Mass: In Memory of Katherine Guzi
This morning, October 20th, we held a very moving School Mass, led by Fr. Tim. He talked to our students about trusting Jesus and always trying our best to do the right thing. In attendance, we had family members of Mrs. Katherine Guzi, mother of our seventh grader, Matthew, who recently passed away.
We would like to give special thanks to our seventh-graders for leading us in prayer, the cantors, and Mrs. Spradlin, her son, and Mrs. Davis for preparing our students and playing the piano.
| Right after mass, Mrs. Gomez and Mrs. Bolen gave out birthday pencils and wished everyone a blessed weekend! | |

Teacher & Staff Spotlight
This school year has brought many changes to Blessed Sacrament School. For the first time in over a decade, we have several double classes and we are blessed to be able to hire more teachers. We want our school community to get to know our teachers and staff better, so we have chosen to bring back our Teacher & Staff Spotlight. We will feature a teacher or staff member with their short bio and interesting facts about them every week. This week we are introducing one of our kindergarten teachers, Ms. Tonya Joyner!
| |
Ms. Tonya Joyner is our Pandas Kindergarten Teacher with Mrs. Rubi Flores as her teacher assistant. Ms. Tonya teaches science to both of our kindergarten classes. She decided to work at Blessed Sacrament School because she wanted to work for a full-day program. She was also drawn to BSS because it is a place where she can talk openly about her faith.
Ms. Tonya is a native of Johnston County. She grew up in Selma, NC. She went to college at UNC-Chapel Hill and obtained a degree in Sociology & Human Relations with a Concentration in Elementary Education. She shared with us that she took an interest in elementary education because both of her parents are retired educators. At first, she wanted to do something different and pursued other positions. Early in her career, she worked for the HUD division called the Housing Assistance Program and helped low-income homeowners. Before becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom, she worked at LabCorp, in their Human Resources division.
For the last 19 years, Ms. Tonya worked for Front Street UMC Preschool. When her oldest child started preschool at Front Street UMC Playschool, she became a very active parent volunteer. She served on the board and worked as a substitute teacher. She eventually became a pre-3 teacher and has been teaching ever since. She loves working with young children!
Ms. Tonya currently resides in Elon, NC, and has three children. Her oldest son, William, graduated from UNC-G in May. He is currently working with Roots and Wings and his focus is helping “at risk” children secure community service and mediation with the Alamance County Teen Court judicial system. Her middle son, Thomas, is a freshman at Appalachian State University and he is pursuing a double major in exercise science and speech pathology. Ms. Tonya's youngest, Emma Kate, is a sophomore at Western Alamance High School where she is a member of the Western Alamance Lady Warriors Dance Team. She also dances with Burlington Dance Center and will be performing in the Nutcracker at the Paramount Theater in December. Ms. Tonya loves her two long-haired dachshunds named Daisy Mae and Ruby Twizzle.
When she is not working at BSS, Ms. Tonya enjoys the outdoors, going fishing, hiking, or going to the mountains. She loves working at BSS and wants to tell our parents: "Thank You for sharing your children with me!"

Recordatorio amistoso, ¡haremos la transición a los uniformes de invierno el próximo lunes 6 de noviembre!

Lost & Found
Lost items are already starting to accumulate in both buildings. Last year the amount of items in the Lost & Found at the end of the year was overwhelming! We do not have the space to keep these items for long periods of time. This year, we will be donating/purging items that aren't labeled every Friday!
PLEASE label all items! We will make every effort to return lost items to their owners. If they are not labeled, they will be placed in the Lost & Found. On Friday afternoons, clothing and jackets will be donated to the Swap Shop. Water bottles, lunch boxes, and all other items will be thrown away.
Mabel's Labels are a great way to help us return your children's lost items!
You are welcome to come inside to look in the Lost & Found anytime!
Thank you for understanding!

Objetos perdidos y encontrados

Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year
We have new Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year. We would love to help promote your business, while you support our school!
Money raised during the 2022-2023 school year was used for several major and unexpected expenses. We are in the process of replacing our 26-year-old Fire Alarm System at the Main Campus. We also replaced and repaired flooring in several areas of the building. A few rooms also received new paint!
Due to increased enrollment, we purchased 100 new Chromebooks for our students. None of these things would have been possible without the support of our community!

If you or someone you know owns a business and would like to partner with our school, contact us today!
