Mardi Gras Parade Success! | |
"The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons. From here, the traditional revelry of "Boeuf Gras," or fatted calf, followed France to her colonies. New Orleans was established in 1718 by Bienville. By the 1730s, Mardi Gras was celebrated openly in New Orleans, but not with the parades we know today. In the early 1740s, Louisiana's governor, the Marquis de Vaudreuil, established elegant society balls, which became the model for the New Orleans Mardi Gras balls of today. By the late 1830s, New Orleans held street processions of maskers with carriages and horseback riders to celebrate Mardi Gras. Dazzling gaslight torches, or "flambeaux," lit the way for the krewe's members and lent each event an exciting air of romance and festivity." - mardigrasneworleans.com/history/
| On Tuesday, March 4th, at 10 am, we held our traditional Mardi Gras Parade! All of our students and staff were encouraged to dress in purple, green, and gold! Mrs. Fitzgerald, with our middle school students, invited neighbors to come outside once the students paraded. Our students had a lot of fun dressed in bright colors and beads and also held a raffle to see who would be our parade Queen & King: Congratulations to Elam Menjivar (5) & Isabella Cox (4); you guys were wonderful! Thank you to the parents who were able to come and help us marshal the parade. CLICK HERE for a video recording of the event. | |

Ash Wednesday
We celebrated Mass with Father Vincent at the Lady of the Angels Center and held a prayer service at the Main Campus, as it was raining and the elementary students were unable to walk over for the Ash Wednesday celebration on March 5th. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten period. "On this special day of reflection, Catholics wear a marking of the cross in ash on their foreheads. The ashes symbolize our mortality – 'Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.' But you might be wondering, where do the ashes for Ash Wednesday come from? Usually, the Ash Wednesday ashes are created by burning palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebration. Palm Sunday is the last Sunday of Lent and leads into Holy Week. It is on this day that people laid palms to cover Jesus’s path as he arrived in Jerusalem, just days before he was crucified. Since the palms have been blessed, instead of throwing them away after the celebration, they are saved to create ashes for Ash Wednesday. Sometimes, the ashes are scented with incense and christened by holy water." -mercyhome.org

EF Tip of the Week - AM Success
This week in Executive Function, we focused on Time Management and how best to set yourself up for a successful academic day. Students used Google Maps to find their actual travel time. They then overestimated in order to prepare for unforeseen circumstances and inclement weather and came up with a LEAVE TIME. Please talk to your child about his/her ideal Leave Time in order to best set your child up for success!

Dates: Monday, March 17 to Friday, March 21, 2025.
Location: Blessed Sacrament School's Main Campus-Mutipurpose Room
Family Event- Family Night is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 pm in the MSS Main Campus Multipurpose Room.
Link for Little Knights/Elementary School: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/blessedsacramentschool
Link for Middle School: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/blessedsacramentschool1
While you're there, set up a Book Fair Wallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for the books at the Fair without cash. Then, share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books at the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at the Scholastic Fair. I hope you'll join your child at our school's Fair and share a reading experience they'll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Mrs. Gomez
