From the Head of School
Excellence for the Lord
This week the faculty and staff are having a few conversations about the theme of excellence for the Lord. Scripture is clear about doing our best for the Lord in multiple verses, such as Colossians 3:23: "Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." (NLT). It is important to make the distinction found in Ephesians 2:8-9, discussed in MS/HS faculty devotions last week, that salvation is based on what God has done for us, not what we do for God. However, the next verse tells us that, "we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to do." (NIV). We emphasized in discussions that mediocrity does not honor the Lord. All of us — parents, students, faculty and staff, and the Head of School — need the Lord’s wisdom in honoring him in our work without becoming a perfectionist or a workaholic. May the Lord guide you in your parenting, and faculty and staff in our teaching and modeling, that we will effectively communicate that excellence honors the Lord.
