Thanksgiving Message from the Head of School
God is good all of the time

No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. I Thessalonians 5:17, NLT

Thankfulness is not a seasonal virtue — it should be a year-round virtue. God calls us to gratitude "no matter what happens." This does not require us to jump up and down in rejoicing when we experience disappointment, extreme difficulty, or loss of a loved one. Some of our King's families will have an empty seat at the Thanksgiving table this year. When Jesus learned of his cousin John's death, "[H]e withdrew to a desolate place by himself" (Matthew 14:13). It is OK to grieve such a loss and depend on the Lord for strength. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." All of us, as believers in Christ, are thankful that the Lord does not treat us as our sins deserve (Psalm 103:10-14). I remember an older man who lived in my parents' retirement community whose standard response to the question of "How are you?" was "I am blessed." This week is a special time to be thankful, and I trust that all of our King's families will express that gratitude to the Lord and to others during this season of Thanksgiving.
