From the Head of School
Praying Continually

One of the shortest verses in the Bible is also one of the most important in living the Christian life. "Pray without ceasing" (KJV) or "pray continually" (NIV) is found in I Thessalonians 5:17. One writer says that one of his favorite verses on prayer comes from the wedding in Cana where Mary asks Jesus to solve a problem at the wedding and says, "They have no wine" (John 2:3). His point is that prayer is bringing your helplessness to Jesus. Jesus also told us, "[U]nless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3). Little children are very good at "helplessness." In the same way, God does want us to come to Him empty-handed, weary and heavy laden. A daily devotional time of Bible study and prayer is a great spiritual discipline, but praying should not stop there. Continuous prayer is an ongoing conversation throughout the day where we bring our daily challenges and blessings to the Lord in prayer. Praying continually is walking with Him every step of the way acknowledging His sovereignty, not ours. May all of us strive to be men and women of continuous prayer.
