Welcome to Second Semester! Standardized testing takes place in March, and April, depending on your student’s grade level. ACT, FORWARD, and ACT ASPIRE dates are listed in this OCHS test schedule. Please review this schedule, regardless of your child’s grade level as several dates impact in-person student attendance.

Oak Creek High School students in grades 9 and 10 will take the ACT ASPIRE on April 6, 2022 and the FORWARD Exam will be administered to students in grade 10 on March 30, 2022. These exams are required by Wisconsin state law. The state entered a ten year test administration contract so longitudinal data can be reported. The assessments include multiple choice and constructed response questions. Students will use their Chromebook to respond to both types of questions. Please be certain your child comes to school with a charged Chromebook.

In addition, all Wisconsin students in their junior year will take the ACT exam on March 8, 2022, also required by state law.

It is important that your child is in attendance, comes prepared, arrives early, gets plenty of rest the night prior, and eats a healthy breakfast. Please remind your child that during the exam, he/she will want to read the directions thoroughly, look for clues, answer all questions, and leave enough time to review their answers.

While just a part of the total picture, standardized test data provides important student achievement information. Your child’s test results, classroom assessments, work products, and teacher feedback provide a comprehensive picture of your child’s learning. Thank you for your partnership as you reinforce appropriate test prep strategies at home.

Transportation with Masks

As a reminder, masks must be worn on school buses at all times; both to and from school, to all sporting events, activities and on field trips. Please supply your student with a mask for these occasions.

Block Schedule Practice Week–February 21-24

In an effort to continue our professional growth as a school, we will follow a “mock” block schedule practice week. Please note that the practice week does not replicate the exact schedule we will use starting next year, due to complications with our current lunch and Knight Advisory schedule. The school start and end times do not change; however, the structure of each hour will look different for students. Please review this schedule with your student. All students will receive an advisory lesson prior to our practice week so that they have the opportunity to see the schedule and ask questions, as necessary.

Hot Breakfast!

On February 16, OCHS will be serving a "Hot" Breakfast out of the Dining Room in the High School. Though breakfast will only be served at the 10-12 building, interested 9th grade students should plan to bring their appetites to the 10-12 cafeteria. Doors open at 6:40am. There is no cost to students. Hope to see you all there!

The breakfast will consist of the following:

Scrambled Eggs

Sausage Patty

Pancakes

Fresh Apples

Choice of Milk

Choice of Juice

Yearbook image.jpg

To be guaranteed a 2021-2022 yearbook, bring $60 (cash or check made out to OCHS) to the 10-12 building’s main office by Feb. 14. You can also purchase the yearbook through Infinite Campus (go to the FEES tab). If you do not order by Feb. 14, we will have a limited number of yearbooks for sale at the end of the year. You are not guaranteed a yearbook unless you order by Feb. 14.

Peer Tutoring in the 10-12 building is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 3:45 pm. We have tutors to help with math, science, English, social studies, and foreign languages. New tutors are always welcome - it's a great way to earn service hours! Please email Mr. Raynor with questions at d.raynor@ocfsd.org

The ACT will be held on March 8th for ALL juniors. OCV students are required to attend in person to take the ACT. There will be asynchronous learning for 10th and 12th grade students but 9th grade students will have school as usual.

Juniors need to come to school with:

  • a fully charged Chromebook
  • their charger cord
  • an ID (either state ID, driver’s license, or school ID)
  • Pencils
  • calculator

Items that are not allowed in the testing rooms:

  • Phones
  • Smart watches and similar
  • food
  • Drink
  • backpacks

Juniors will be released from school after the ACT at approximately 12:00.

Early College Credit Program taken at Four-Year Public or Private University

Deadlines for sign up:

Summer- February 1

Semester One- March 1

Semester Two- October 1

High school students can earn college credit through the Early College Credit Program (ECCP) or Start College Now (SCN). The ECCP permits students in grades 9-12 to enroll in a Wisconsin private Institution or UW System of Higher Education (IHE) to take one or more courses for which the student may earn high school credit, post-secondary credit or both during the fall, spring or summer semesters.

Start College Now taken at Wisconsin Technical Colleges

Deadlines for sign up:

Summer- February 1

Semester One- March 1

Semester Two- October 1

High school students can earn college credit through the Early College Credit Program (ECCP) or Start College Now (SCN). SCN will allow students in grades 11-12 the opportunity to take college courses at Wisconsin Technical Colleges during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Under ECCP/SCN, the costs of the courses are shared among the IHE, the school district, the state, and in some cases the student’s family. Students may not be concurrently enrolled in both programs and are limited to a maximum of 18 credits total for the duration of their eligibility. More information may be found on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's website and ECCP/SCN Comparison Chart. Students can enroll in course(s) that OCHS does not offer a comparable course. Students can find all application materials on the Dual Enrollment page of the School Counseling website.

AP Testing Calendar

-Students should look closely at the exam schedule to plan accordingly.

-Students who are scheduled with 2 exams in one day (am and pm) are encouraged to bring a bag lunch or snack to eat between exams.

-Students MUST contact Mrs. Wolak (k.wolak@ocfsd.org) and their AP Instructor IF they are scheduled for 2 exams at the same time so a late exam can be ordered.

-Students need to indicate in My Ap the college, university, or scholarship program they'd like to receive their free AP score report. Students indicate this information ONLY through My AP. Students have until June 20, to complete this step.

2022 Graduation Ceremony

The 2022 Graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 am. We will conduct our graduation ceremony at American Family Field. The gates will open to guests at 9:00 am with the ceremony beginning promptly at 10:00 am. The ceremony should conclude around 12:30 pm. Parking is free and there is plenty of handicap accessible seating for family members who may need them.

An informational letter and ticket order form will be mailed to homes on February 18th so please keep an eye out for it! Each graduate will receive four complimentary tickets. If you are in need of additional tickets, they can be purchased for $8.00 each. There is no limit to the number of tickets you are able to purchase. Graduates and guests ages 5 and under do not require a ticket. All tickets are general seating.

The completed ticket order form MUST be turned in for each student even if they are only requesting the four complimentary tickets. If a form is not returned it will be assumed that the graduating student is not planning on attending the ceremony. Graduates can only turn in one form even if they reside in two households. All ticket orders, regardless of household structure, should be included in one form.

Graduation tickets will not be mailed. The tickets will be distributed to students at a senior assembly during their advisories on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

OCHS Assistant Child Care Teacher Program

Students enrolled in the Assistant Child Care Teacher course during the fall semester were able to earn their Assistant Child Care Teacher certifications from the Department of Public Instruction. There were over 20 students who earned these certifications this semester, which allow them to work at a licensed childcare center in Wisconsin. On top of this, students were also able to receive three MATC credits for the course in Early Childhood Education. Nice work

Knight Skills

In January, students were introduced to the topic of “Radical Acceptance.”  Radical acceptance is the practice of accepting reality as it is. It is for problems that cannot be solved in the long term (e.g., a death in the family). Denying reality will not change reality. Radical acceptance does not mean approval of reality (e.g., that we’re glad the person died), it just means that one accepts that this is reality and stops fighting it (e.g., we accept that this person has died and that this is our new normal).  When fighting reality, words or phrases such as, “this isn’t fair” or “it shouldn’t be this way” are often used.  Reality may be painful, but when reality isn’t accepted, this turns pain into suffering.

Radical acceptance is a great opportunity to practice problem solving skills.  Once reality is accepted, then one can:

  • Solve the problem
  • Change how they feel about the problem
  • Accept the problem

Often when not accepting reality, the default solution is often to stay miserable (e.g., by using phrasing such as “this isn’t fair” or “why me?”).  Accepting reality allows choice in moving forward in the unpleasant reality. Please watch the short  linked video to learn a little more about radical acceptance!
