Dear Oak Creek High School Parents/Guardians,

As the first quarter comes to an end, so do Fall sports and activities. Students are encouraged to get involved in at least one activity during the cold winter months. Studies show a correlation between students who involve themselves in their school community and an increase in grade point average. Students are also reminded to set quarter two goals as grades become finalized in January. Achieving personal goals and developing personal academic skills will not only assist students while they are in high school, but also better prepare them for later success in college and/or career endeavors.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

In partnership,

OCHS Administrative Team

Ms. Mongan, 10-12 Principal

Mr. Ruffolo, NGC Principal

Ms. Leannais, 10th grade Associate Principal

Mrs. Pecha, 11th grade Associate Principal

Mr. Lataille, 12th grade Associate Principal

Mr. Holler, Athletic/Activities Director

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is available on Tuesdays in room 162 and Thursdays in room 165 after school from 2:50pm-3:45pm in the 10-12 building. There are tutors available for English, science, math, social studies, foreign languages, and electives. Students from the NGC and 10-12 buildings are welcome! We are always looking for new tutors. Tutoring is a fulfilling and fun way to earn service hours! Please contact Mr. Dennis Raynor with questions ([email protected]).

Order Deadline: Wednesday, November 16th

Attention Seniors:

Seniors should be completing their college applications. Colleges have priority deadlines for applications. Consider having all applications completed by Thanksgiving! Families should also be filling out the FAFSA - even if you do not accept what is offered to you, some colleges will use the FAFSA to determine scholarships they will offer to students. Make sure you are looking at our website for scholarships. Students can also apply to scholarships at the colleges they applied to. See our website for information: https://sites.google.com/ocfsd.org/studentservices/career-college-ready

Attention Juniors:

Junior year is the time to go on college visits. Families arrange these directly with the colleges. Colleges will offer three types of visits:

  • Virtual. If you can't go in person, this may be a good option. Just be aware that colleges will show you exactly what they want you to see.
  • Campus tour. This is a great, fast option. Often around 1.5 hours, this gives families an opportunity to walk around campus and learn some information about the school.
  • Open House. Colleges all call these different names, but the experience is similar. Students and families are on campus for the majority of the day listening to an admission talk, talking with academic departments, learning about opportunities on campus (e.g., athletics, study abroad, honor colleges, etc.), and taking a campus tour.

Schedule the visits directly on the colleges' website and then fill out the Academic and Career Field Trip form to be excused from school. College visits are most popular in the fall and the spring with less visits happening over December and January. It is also important to get on campus when the college students are on campus.

Knight Skills

Students in grades 9-11 are, once again, being taught our Knight Skills lessons. These lessons focus on:

  • mindfulness - being aware of what one is thinking and feeling and being present in the moment without worrying about what was, or what could be
  • distress tolerance - helping students to manage intense feelings and situations in a way that doesn't make situations worse and teaching them how to problem solve
  • emotional regulation - teaching students how to identify and effectively cope with their emotions
  • interpersonal effectiveness - teaching students how to effectively and respectfully ask for what they want

Knights' Cafe

Students in grades 10-12 wishing to order their beverages in-person at Knights' Cafe must obtain a pass from room 139 prior to going to GO Time. Knights' Cafe will only be serving in-person guests on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesdays are pick-up only for online orders, no in-person service. Ninth graders will continue to participate in Knights' Cafe via online orders only.
