Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! The first week is underway. Our administrative team met with each grade level during the first several days to discuss academic and behavioral expectations . Already, students are acclimating themselves well to the block schedule and demonstrating exemplary behavior.
As educational practitioners, we understand we are only one piece of the puzzle and believe that a strong home-school connection has a direct impact on student achievement. We consider it vital to work collaboratively with parents/guardians to contribute to the overall achievement of each student as they become independent, lifelong learners. As partners, we encourage you to support your student in the educational process. Studies show that parental involvement in a student’s education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement.
As you have discussions throughout the year, encourage your student to stay focused on attendance, complete homework in a timely fashion, and become involved in activities, clubs, and/or athletics during the course of the year.
We are excited to begin the 2022-2023 school year with inspiration, excitement, and purpose.
Ms. Mongan, 10-12 Principal
Mr. Ruffolo, NGC Principal
Ms. Leannais, 10th grade Associate Principal
Mrs. Pecha, 11th grade Associate Principal
Mr. Lataille, 12th grade Associate Principal
Mr. Holler, Athletic/Activities Director

Open House
Open House is Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 5:30- 7:30 pm. The format is a “meet and greet”. Parents will not follow a “schedule,” as many families have students in both buildings. Please visit Infinite Campus prior to arriving so that you know which teachers to visit. Teachers will provide information about classes (ex: syllabus, brochures, flyers, etc.).
Student Services will hold a Dual Enrollment Presentation during Open House at 5:45 & 6:45 pm in the Little Theater. Students interested in earning college credit while in high school should attend the meeting to learn more about Start College Now (credits at technical colleges), Early College Credit (credits at 4 year colleges), CAPP (credits through UW-Oshkosh) and the Dual Enrollment Academy (at MATC).

As we begin a new year, it is a good time to remind students and families about expected behaviors in the school building. Two topics of importance, taken directly from the student handbook, include cell phone use and vaping.
As it relates to cell phones, students should store their cell phones on their person during the school day, and use them only during lunch and passing time. While in class, students may be asked to place their phone in the classroom holder, designed for safe keeping. Many teachers already utilize this system as a means to reduce distractions. Please read page 49 of the student handbook for the various levels of consequences related to inappropriate use of electronic devices.
Students are prohibited from being in possession of any nicotine or vaping product while on school property or at any school-sponsored event or sporting activity. It is also important to understand that vaping incidents are progressive in nature. For example, a student who violates the vaping policy as a ninth grader will begin with a Level 1 consequence, depending on the infraction. If the same student violates again later in their high school years, the student will not return back to Level 1, but will instead receive a Level 2 or higher consequence, again depending on the circumstance. To be clear, vape cartridges, vapes, and any e-cigarette devices will result in disciplinary action found on page 50 in the student handbook.

Attention Juniors:
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test designated for entry to a particular year's competition. The PSAT is October 12, 2022 during Block 1, GOTime and Block 2 at OCHS. The cost is $18 payable to OCHS. There are limited seats available so students should sign up early in the School Store on Infinite Campus. The deadline to register is Tuesday, October 4.
Students who plan to spend the usual four years in high school (grades 9 through 12) before entering college full time must take the PSAT/NMSQT in their third year (grade 11, junior year). They will be entering the competition that ends when awards are offered in the spring of their fourth high school year (grade 12, senior year), the same year they will leave high school and enter college.
Although some schools encourage their sophomores to take the PSAT/NMSQT for guidance purposes, these students must take the test again when they are juniors to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program if they are spending the usual four years of study in grades 9 through 12.
Email your school counselor with questions.

At Oak Creek High School, AP exams are optional. Students are not required to take the AP exam because they are enrolled in an AP class. However, research shows that students who register early for an AP exam remain focused and motivated throughout the year and typically perform better on the AP exam. Therefore, by default, all students are set with an order exam status of Yes when they join a class section. A Join Code will be provided by the AP teacher. If a student has multiple AP courses, there will be multiple AP join codes.
- It is possible to request an exam after the final deadline, however an additional late order fee of $40 per exam will apply. The extra cost will be billed to the student’s high school account.
- If a student chooses to cancel an exam after November 13 or does not take an exam that was ordered for them, the school will be charged $40 for the exam. That cost will be billed to the student’s high school account.
-
Families who are eligible for the Free or Reduced Lunch Meals Program are reminded to complete the Sharing Information with Other Programs form when applying. This allows a reduced AP Exam(s) fee. Without this form marked YES, fees cannot be reduced for the test.
- If a student knows they will not be taking the AP exam, then the student will go into their College Board account and change the exam status from Yes, to No. AP teachers can assist students with this process.
| |
Students will be enrolling in AP Classroom on the first or second day of class and will have access to AP practice and feedback resources through the College Board website. It is important that students SAVE their username and password to their account. More information will be shared through AP teachers. | |

Parking Permits 22-23
There are still some Student Parking Permits available for the 22-23 school year. Students should complete the appropriate Google Form (linked below).
This will enter the student into the system for a permit. Once forms below are completed, students can pay for and pick up a permit. These are distributed on a first come, first served basis until we are sold out.
There are 3 Student Parking Lots. Parking Lots A & B will be separated by grade level, spots in Lot C will be sold once spots in Lot A & B are filled.
All student parking spots are assigned, permit number matches the spot number. Our goal is to provide safe parking on our campus where both your child and vehicle are safe while they attend school.
Please note the following if you are interested in purchasing a parking permit:
- A student may not have outstanding Student Fees if they would like to purchase a parking permit. Outstanding fees need to be paid or have a payment plan in place with the OCHS book keeper.
- Students holding parking permits are subject to Random Drug Testing (see policy and consent form below). Students and parents are required to sign the consent form AND the medical release form before being issued a permit.
- Early Graduates will have the opportunity to purchase a Semester 1 ONLY Parking Permit. The cost of a one semester permit is $53. Full year permits are $106.
- Students must have a current, valid driver’s license in order to purchase a permit. Permits will not be sold to students who only have a temporary permit.
- Please review the Rules and Regulations for parking in a school lot.
- There are NOT enough student parking spaces to accommodate ALL student drivers. Street parking is available on most surrounding streets. Parking in the lots of area businesses (Pick n’ Save, OC Community Center, etc.) is NOT suggested. These businesses have the right to tow unauthorized cars parked in their lots.
