The Know-Before-You-Go Guide
to the 2018 National Convention
|
|
GET EXCITED!
The 2018 SHPE National Convention is just TWO days away and we’re preparing for the biggest and best ever gathering of Hispanics in STEM. We want you to be prepared too, so we’ve put together everything you need to know for a successful five days in Cleveland.
|
|
Weather:
We recommend you
check the weather
before you pack, but as of now, it looks like you will need to pack for cool weather during the day and cold at night with rain possible on the travel days.
|
|
Dress Code:
We recommend business attire for most of the convention, and business casual for the social events, with comfortable shoes for both! The STAR Awards Gala on Saturday is formal attire. If you’re taking a
corporate tour
, please refer to the specific dress code for your tour.
Travel from Airport:
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport offers multiple options for transfer from the airport to your hotel, including taxis, rideshare (Lyft and Uber), and public transportation.
If you intend to use a rideshare service from the airport, please proceed to the Baggage Claim level where you will find a friendly
Destination Cleveland volunteer
available near the Airport Welcome Desk and Carousel 6. The volunteer will be happy to help with directions to the rideshare pickup location. You will be directed to use the down escalators behind the Welcome Desk.
Public transportation downtown from the airport is also available and there are signs to direct you. RTA's station at CLE is located on the lower level of the main terminal. To reach the RTA station, travelers should use the elevators or escalators located in the center of the ticketing and baggage claim levels. For additional information on Cleveland Airport Public Transportation options, please call 216.566.5100, or visit the
RTA website
.
Public Transportation:
All SHPE hotels are located within walking distance of the convention center. You may also use the E-Line trolley; rides are free with a smile.
Destination Cleveland Alliance:
Safety Ambassadors
in bright yellow shirts will be available around downtown Cleveland from 7 AM to 12 AM each day to provide assistance on area information or an escort to your hotel as well as directions. If you need an escort please call 216-621-6000 for assistance.
|
|
Parking:
The Huntington Park Garage offers a connected parking solution with our Center’s entrance located through the direct connection to the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. Additionally, there are 1,200 attached parking spots, plus more than 5,000 parking spaces within walking distance of our Center, found in city surface lots and garages.
Link to the parking map.
Emergency Numbers:
In the event you experience or witness a medical or other type of emergency, please do not call 911 from your cell phone. Call 1601 from any black house phone or call 216-928-1601 from your cell phone. Calling either of these numbers will connect you with our Security Command Center. They will call 911 for medical or police assistance. Security guards will also be available throughout the building.
