Happy Thanksgiving...

BBC Update... U.S. Television Update...

New Fairfield, CT (November 22, 2023) — Here in the U.S., it’s Thanksgiving week. It is a time we set aside to commemorate a particular event in our nation’s history that somehow involves consuming vast amounts of turkey. But more importantly, it is a time we reflect on all those things for which we are grateful.

We at The L.H. Baekeland Project can count many blessings. Among them are the experiences we have had, the people we have met, and the relationships we have established, all of which arose from our association with the founder, Hugh Karraker. It is an honor to carry on his legacy of celebration, education, and advocacy, as well as to try to maintain and nurture all the vital connections Hugh established with amazing people and interests all around the world. We are grateful for the privilege of continuing Hugh’s work. And we are grateful to you for your continued interest, support, and expressions of friendship as we attempt to build on Hugh’s dreams for a better world.

BBC AIRS EPISODE ABOUT VACUUM CLEANERS AND BAKELITE

We have received word that BBC TWO is about to air Episode 2 of its six-part series, The Secret Genius of Modern Life, entitled “Vacuum Cleaner”. In the episode, host Hannah Fry takes a look at the inner workings of the vacuum cleaner and the unique Bakelite components that made that marvelous machine workable, affordable, and indispensable to millions. As we mentioned in our last bulletin, the producers of the science series reached out to us to fact check their information about Leo Baekeland and his 1907 invention of Bakelite, the first wholly synthetic plastic. With the help of author, historian and University of Texas professor Dr. Jeffrey L. Meikle, we were able to provide the accurate historical details the show needed for the script.

The program airs on BBC TWO Wednesday, November 22 at 8pm in the United Kingdom. BBC TWO will repeat the 58-minute episode on Sunday, November 26 at 7pm.  According to the series’ website, the programme then will be available shortly after broadcast on BBC iPlayer 13-15 Homepage-DocumentariesHope you can catch it. If you are not able to access the show, a link will be sent out for the episode after it has been broadcast in the UK.

LHB PROJECT TV SERIES MOVING FORWARD

We are excited to report that our own television series, months in development, recently took a big step forward. We have attached two highly experienced executive producers to the project who are guiding us through development and connecting us with global distributing partners.

All of this is a little “hush-hush” at the moment, but we can say that our series concept, and its content, is unique. As far as we can tell, nothing like it has ever been done before. We will be announcing more details soon, as we are able. In the meantime, we are actively seeking partners and investors to join with us on our enterprise—a fun, rewarding, and worthy ride that we believe will make the world a better place. If you are interested, please contact us; we would welcome a confidential discussion.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

However you plan to celebrate it, if you do, we wish you a happy day of giving thanks for the many blessings that are yours.
