A Message From Our Directors

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month. According to the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, this behavior affects physical and mental health, and can lead to increased risk of suicidal thoughts or actions, particularly as a result of shame or unmanageable debt. If you are concerned that you may have a gambling problem, a free online self-assessment tool is available to help determine if help might be needed. Counseling for Maryland residents with gambling problems is available at no cost regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. For more information and help for problem gambling

call, text, or chat 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537).

March is also Social Work Month. This year's theme is “Social Work: Compassion + Action” in recognition of the empathy and caring that social workers have while working on the frontlines to help people with mental health and substance misuse issues. We would like to thank the many social workers in our county for their hard work and dedication to helping their community.

Sleep Awareness Week is March 9-15. There is a clear link between sleep and mental health, and according to a recent National Sleep Foundation poll, over half of U.S. adults who reported getting less than 7-9 hours of sleep a day experienced signs of depression. This month, learn six small steps you can take to get a better night's sleep and improve your overall health.

If you are in crisis and need help, our Warmline is open 24/7 at 410-768-5522.
