Coach Review

Once the program completes and submits the application for Validation and On-Site Observation, a Quality Improvement Coach will review goals marked for Coach Review to ensure they are complete. They may discuss any self-assessment activities you have completed and review the Self-Reflection to see that the program has adjusted responses for any improvements made. Coaches will also answer your questions about Validation on On-Site Observation. See what Coaches will discuss with you during Coach Review.

Indicator Spotlight

IP4: Program provides families and staff a description about how it supports mothers who breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is a personal decision made by the family, and ll feeding choices should be respected. Breastfeeding is an important way for mothers to bond with their child and it provides health benefits to the mother and child. Programs can make a big difference in supporting mothers with continuing their breastfeeding journey. Being welcoming to breastfeeding families leads to positive relationships between the child, mother, and program.

When thinking about ways to support mothers who breastfeed, consider the following options. Then, add what you are implementing to your written description.

  • Provide a designated, comfortable, private breastfeeding and/or lactation area
  • Provide appropriate storage for breastmilk
  • Provide appropriate supplies to prepare breastmilk for consumption

This indicator requires that the program has a description about how it supports mothers who breastfeed. A description is something that is written that the program has in place. This could be a policy, statement, plan, or something else. The description needs to be shared with both staff and families.

For more information about this indicator, review the Quality Indicators Guidance Document and Quality Indicators FAQ

Description Indicators

Many indicators in the Self-Reflection ask for both a description of something, and how the description is shared. It's important to look at the description and how it is shared as two separate things. Programs must show evidence of both pieces to meet the intent of the indicator.

On-Site Observation Tips

I filled out the On-Site Observation Questions form. Now what?

If your program has completed a Validation, you may have received and filled out an On-Site Observation questions form. Once the form is complete, wait for a phone call from a member of our team to verify the information and set up your observation window. Due to the heavy volume of program responses, this phone call could come several weeks after you fill out the form. Do not worry! We will get to you in the order the forms are received.

Tip: when filling out the Observation form, check the box for a copy of your responses to be emailed to you. When you receive the email with your responses, you can rest assured that we have your form and will contact you soon!
