Welcome to the October 2025 edition of our Council newsletter!

As usual, here are a few quick but important items up-front before we get into the news.

• Our next regular business meeting is Wednesday, October 8th, starting at 7:30 p.m. All members are welcome. We'll be serving a great Oktoberfest dinner for members at 6:30 for only $5.

• Just another reminder that our Lounge is now open on Sundays during football season, in addition to our regular hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. We're continuing the Sunday Lounge Menu of delicious food offerings at low-low prices including wings, burgers, chicken fingers, fries, mozzarella sticks and hot dogs with all the fixings!

• At our business meeting on Wednesday, you will have an opportunity to prepay for our Annual Dinner Dance. More info is in the news item below, but come to the meeting and pay for your spot at our event of the year!

• Volunteers are needed this Thursday (10/9) starting at 10 a.m. to help unload and load food supplies for Putnam C.A.P. starting at the Putnam County garage located at 526 Gage Road in Brewster. Please contact Denis Hanrahan or Pat Barry if you are able to help. Please see our June 2025 newsletter for full details on this volunteer opportunity.

• Our Draft Beer of the Month is Sam Adams Octoberfest! This rich, roasty Märzen is a pröst to fall. Its deep amber color, mild pleasant sweetness, and light hop character is a hearty (but not heavy) signal to make the most of the crisper days ahead. Like fall, it's here for a limited-time. Drink it in!

Reserve Today for our 54th Annual Dinner Dance - Saturday, November 1st

Don't miss our event of the year! Our 54th Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony is Saturday, November 1st! There will be fine dining, a top-shelf open bar, music, dancing, and recognition of our members who do so much to make our Council so special.

This year we're returning to Mill Creek Caterers in Hopewell Junction, which provided us with an outstanding catering experience last year. Starting at 6 p.m., we'll enjoy a cocktail hour, open bar, full buffet dinner, dessert, dancing, photo booth, and entertainment. The cost is $125 per guest, and it's well worth the price for an event of this quality, not to mention its importance to our Council and our worthy honorees.

Ensure your spot by dropping off your check at the Council or by mailing it in (10 Fair Street, Carmel, NY 10512, ATTN: Annual). Please give the names of your guests and enclose $125 for each. You may also pay by credit card at our October membership meeting.

This year we are honoring as our "Knight of the Year" Brother Knight Denis Hanrahan, and as "Family of the Year" The Nuñez Family!

There will be a large-format (8.5" x 11") souvenir journal with additional color pages in the center. Please click here to take an ad to honor a special person or group, or to promote your business or organization. No ads will be accepted without payment!

Reservations and pre-payment are absolutely required. No walk-ins and no payments at the door. All reservations and payments must be made by October 27th.

The festivities will start at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour with plenty of hors d’oeuvres, followed by a great buffet dinner, our brief awards ceremony, entertainment and dancing, and delicious desserts & coffee. Open bar all night and we'll have use of the outdoor patio and fireplace!

Our in-house degree team conducted the exemplification, which focuses on the history and principles of our Order, and in which all three degrees are conferred in a single ceremony. It was presented in memory of our dearly departed brother Knight, Sheriff Kevin J. McConville.

Please welcome these newest Third Degree members and encourage them to take an active part in their Council's many activities and causes.

A Message from Our C&B Chair

The third and FINAL Charitable & Benevolent Program Raffle Drawing will be on December 6, 2025.

We are slightly ahead our pace from last year (241 vs. 232 in 2024). But we don't have the luxury of having those 40 "Bonus books" we received last year! 

I'm asking that ALL MEMBERS take at least two (2) C&B Books. More is better.

Also, we have brought back our Football CRAZR, which runs from November 2nd, 2025 through January 4th, 2026 (10 Weeks).  There will again be weekly prizes for the top five scores and lowest score of that week. That's ten weeks of prizes, six prizes a week, giving you sixty chances to win!

Tickets are $20 each, with $5 (25%) coming back to our council.  

Cutoff for sale of these tickets is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14th.

I have plenty of tickets, and they will be available at the October 8th meeting.  

Bartenders have tickets and envelopes available!

"O’zapft Is!"

("It's Tapped!")

A great time was had by one and all at our Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 4th!

Guests dined on classic German cuisine including schnitzel with hunter gravy, grilled bratwurst, goulash soup, potato pancakes, German potato salad, Bavarian soft pretzels with beer cheese, red cabbage, and much more, all made on premises by our Kitchen Crew.

There was also imported German beer and other libations, and for dessert we enjoyed fresh-baked apple strudel with ice cream. Nobody left hungry!

Our Council was transformed into a German beer hall by our crack decorating crew (thanks Ladies!), and our guests enjoyed traditional Austrian-German style and Alpine-American Rock music from the famous Austrian Boys Band.

The annual Stein Lifting Contest after dinner is always a highlight of the evening.

This year's Ladies' Champion was Linda Lavan-Ferris, and the Men's Champion was our own worthy Chaplain, Father Robert Quarato!

Thanks to all of our guests for enjoying the evening with us and helping raise funds for Saint James the Apostle Parish. And special thanks to our Kitchen Crew, who pulled out all the stops to serve the finest, authentic Oktoberfest dinner anywhere around!

Next Cash Bingo on Sunday, October 19th

Our Ladies Auxiliary is hosting another fun-filled afternoon of CASH BINGO games at our Council on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Proceeds will be going to a great local charity: Putnam County Children's Committee!

Doors open at 1:00 p.m. First game is at 2:00 p.m.

Admission is $40 at the door, or only $35 if prepaid through Eventbrite. Click here to purchase your tickets.

Must be 18 years or older. There will be concession sales and Bell Jar tickets.

Fourth Degree News

The next meeting of Mother Cabrini Assembly will be Thursday, October 16th at our Council.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All Fourth Degree Sir Knights are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.

• Celebrate Columbus Day on Monday, October 13th! The founders of the Knights of Columbus chose Christopher Columbus — recognized as a Catholic and celebrated as the discoverer of America – as our Order's patron to demonstrate our loyalty to our country as well as our faith. On Columbus Day, we honor his heroic efforts and also the culture and heritage of the Italian people, and their many contributions to America.

• Election Day is Tuesday, November 4th. Voting is not just a right, but a civic duty. So get out and vote!

• The annual Seminarian's Dinner is Sunday, November 16th, at Father Grady Council in Port Chester, starting at 2:00 p.m. Our Council will once again be sending members to support this important fundraiser for our Seminarians at St. Joseph's Seminary. Please speak with GK Rick if you would like to attend.
