"Mercurius, that two-faced god, comes as the lumen, the Servator, and Salvator, only to those whose reason strives towards the highest light...For those who are unmindful of this light, the lumen naturae turns into a perilous ignis fatuus, and the psychopomp into a diabolical seducer. Lucifer, who could have brought light, becomes the father of lies whose voice in our time, supported by press and radio, revels in orgies of propaganda and leads untold millions to ruin."
C.G. Jung, The Spirit Mercurius

Free Reading Discussion ~ February 5th
The Psyche and the Transformation of the Reality Planes (The Place of Creation, Vol. 3) by Erich Neumann
The Israeli analytical psychologist Erich Neumann, whom C. G. Jung regarded as one of his most gifted students, devoted much of his later writing to the theme of creativity. This is the third volume of Neumann’s essays on that subject. Neumann found his examples not only in the work of writers and artists—William Blake, Goethe, Rilke, Kafka, Klee, Chagall, Picasso, Trakl—but as well in that of physicists, biologists, psychiatrists, and philosophers. Confronting the problem of portraying men and women as creative beings, Neumann expanded the concepts of Jungian psychology with a more comprehensive definition of the archetype and a new concept—“unitary reality.” Whether or not humanity can be restored to health from its present situation as a self-endangered species depends, according to Neumann, on whether we can experience ourselves as truly creative, in touch with our own being and the world’s being.
Join the C.G. Jung Library of Tampa Bay Reading Discussion Group as we explore Neumann’s mature reflections on creativity in this challenging and provocative essay!

Synchronicity: The Confluence of Matter and Psyche,
When Eros Touches Soul
February 26, 27 & 28, 2026
(11 CE Credits Available)
Jung’s understanding and advocacy of the principle of synchronicity augments the reigning scientistic principle of cause and effect, acknowledging the existence of meaningful coincidences of the inner and outer worlds. This phenomenon recognizes a whole and holistic category of knowing that proves elusive, given the clear dominance of the traditional scientific paradigm. For Jung, synchronicity is an a-causal connecting principle that underlies the mysterious relationship between Psyche and Matter. While Psyche and Matter are routinely seen to exist independently, synchronicities reveal a relationship between the two that manifests a unified field, what the ancients referred to as the unus mundus, the one world.
Join the Assisi Institute & the C.G. Jung Library of Tampa Bay for a 3-day international conference, live and on zoom, exploring Jung's contribution to the re-enchantment of the universe that brings science and spirituality back into creative dialogue.
[Note: All registrants will receive zoom links prior to the conference start date as well as access to recordings following the conference. Local participants are invited to come for all or part of this rich offering of perspectives! An optional group conference dinner is planned on Friday, February 27th at Bernini's in Ybor City!]

A Poem on Hope (Excerpt) by Wendell Berry
No place at last is better than the world. The world
is no better than its places. Its places at last
are no better than their people while the people
continue in them. When the people make
dark the light within them, the world darkens.

We Are a Diverse, Thoughtful, Heart-Centered Community.
The unconscious is an immense universe worthy of your careful attention. Attended to, it is a profound source of revelation and meaning in an otherwise chaotic contemporary world. The Library is a living symbol, a source containing stores of hidden or deeply buried ideas and images that want to be discovered and known. Our community exists to stimulate a process of discovery, to support psychological discernment and maturation, to spark the creative instinct, and to facilitate individuation.
