FACES OF SPS
"Art is a way to learn how to be more like yourself, rather than trying to follow someone else's ideas of who you can be."
Jamie Buerger
Art teacher
Cherokee Middle School
"I have always enjoyed creating art and taking art while I was in school. Teaching art seemed like a natural progression for me. In college, I had hoped to teach high school art but after getting hired at Cherokee, I couldn’t imagine teaching anything but middle school. They are the best. Art is a way to learn how to be more like yourself rather than trying to follow someone else’s ideas of who you can be. This is perfect for middle-school aged students, where finding your place is a daily struggle."
