We try to keep our schools open as scheduled as much as possible. However, there are times when weather conditions cause us to cancel school for the safety of our 24,000 students. Find out more at our Winter Weather Cancellation page.

Thanks to Springfield voters and the passage of Proposition S in 2019, construction is underway at five schools: Hillcrest High School, Jarrett Middle School, York, Field and Twain elementary schools.
FACES OF SPS
“I wanted to be a welder. Now, I go to OTC in the afternoons and take welding classes, which SPS pays for, and I'll be done at the end of next year and able to start working."
Gavon Werst
Senior and Academy Ambassador
Glendale High School and OTC Middle College
“I thought I wanted to be a mechanic, so I did the GO CAPS Engineering and Manufacturing strand last year. We visited a ton of factories, different places in town that did manufacturing, and I figured out what I liked, didn’t like. But the first time I struck an arc, I knew I wanted to be a welder. Now, I go to OTC in the afternoons and take welding classes, which SPS pays for, and I’ll be done at the end of next year and able to start working. I know what I want to do forever, and I figured that out in high school with the Academy of Technology and Design, my Construction Trades pathway classes, and GO CAPS. I tell my friends: the more you can explore a field you like, the more you’ll know what to do next. I’m ready to work.”
