Try This: Use full descriptive phrases in your hyperlinks to improve accessibility

“Data stories frequently invite readers to ‘click here’ to see original data sources, or ‘read more’ to find related stories in a series — or even to click on a URL. These stories unwittingly forget that blind or low-vision audiences, or anyone else that uses screen reader software to read the story in data form, cannot make sense of hyperlinks placed on text in this way.”

-- Rowan Philp senior reporter at GIJN, excerpt from "Lessons Learned: 10 common mistakes in data journalism" (Global Investigative Journalism Network)

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on launching your career

“I always say that no matter what job you’re in or what industry you’re in, just take a job. Start somewhere. Your first job isn’t going to define you. You can learn something from any business that you’re in. I worked on a golf course in high school, and just interacting with these people who I had nothing in common with because I had never played a sport, it helped me and informed how I talk to people now — which is such a big part of my job. Even if you’re not in your dream job, it’s helpful for whenever you get there.”

-- Kaitlan Collins, news anchor on CNN, excerpt from a recent interview with Footwear News
