Volunteer Spotlight

This month, we’re spotlighting volunteer Sharon Gunn. Since beginning her volunteer journey with Concord Coalition to End Homelessness in October, Sharon has brought curiosity, compassion, and a deep sense of care to her work at the Resource Center. In this spotlight, she reflects on how volunteering has reshaped her understanding of homelessness, the importance of recognizing people by name, and how even the smallest acts of support can make a meaningful difference.

Emergency Winter Shelter Update

We are a month into the Emergency Winter Shelter season, and while December brought unprecedented weather, the shelter has continued to run smoothly thanks to the dedication of our staff and volunteers.

From December 1–26, 2025, the shelter provided 863 bed nights, serving an average of 35 guests each night—a powerful reminder of how essential this resource is during the coldest months.

There is still time to get involved this season. Volunteers support CCEH staff by assisting with guest check-ins, assigning beds, helping guests store belongings, and providing general supervision. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helps keep the Emergency Winter Shelter running safely and compassionately, night after night. Volunteers can view available shifts and sign up through CCEH's POINT volunteer page.

Remembering Those We Lost in 2025

In December, CCEH joined community members at the Homeless Persons Memorial Vigil in downtown Concord to honor individuals who died this past year while experiencing homelessness or housing instability. This year, 19 individuals from Concord were remembered, a sobering reminder of the ongoing need for stable housing and compassionate community support.

The vigil is a moment to pause, speak names, and reflect on the lives behind the numbers — and to recommit to the work of ending homelessness with dignity and care.

Thank you to our friends at ConcordTV for recording the vigil in its entirety.
