On May 10th, 2025, American Heritage Partners hosted a special luncheon with our founding father John Adams, celebrating the 250th Anniversary of The Second Continental Congress, The Appointment of General Washington as Commander in Chief, and the Beginnings of an Independent Nation of Free People.
The event featured a performance by noted Chautauqua Mike Lebsock. Mr. Lebsock as John Adams, spoke to us after the end of the Revolutionary War. Mr. Adams shared his recollections of the momentous events that took place in Philadelphia in May 1775, following the outbreak of the American Revolution in April 1775 at Lexington & Concord.
| | Saving the Past: The Incredible Story of Jamestown Rediscovery’s Archaeological Work at Jamestown Colony, and Its Race to Save the Remaining Archaeological Record of the First Permanent English Settlement in North America | | |
On September 13, 2025, American Heritage Partners and the Northern California Company of the Jamestown Society co-hosted a special luncheon featuring a fascinating lecture about the archaeological work being done at the historic Jamestown Colony, and the thousands of artifacts that have been unearthed at the site of the original Jamestown Fort and surrounding areas on the James River.
Our special guest speaker was Mr. Michael Lavin, Director of Collections and Conservation at Jamestown Rediscovery, whose archaeologists have uncovered countless treasures and continue to make astounding discoveries. Mr. Lavin shared some of those discoveries with us and explained the critical role that archaeology has played in our understanding of life in the earliest permanent English settlement in the New World. He also talked about how climate change is posing an existential threat to the Jamestown site, and why public and private support for Jamestown Rediscovery’s work is so critically needed to complete the work before priceless artifacts are forever lost.

The Undiscovered Country reveals the true story of the early American West, blending tales of progress, conquest, and redemption with harsh realities of violence and environmental damage, tracing key events from 1755 to 1890 across diverse landscapes.

Taking Manhattan reveals the founding of New York to be an invention, the result of creative negotiations that would blend the multiethnic, capitalistic society of New Amsterdam with the power of the rising English empire. But the birth of what might be termed the first modern city is also a story of the brutal dispossession of Native Americans and of the roots of American slavery.

Collaborations with the American Heritage Partners
| |
Oregon-California Trails Association
AHP has built a strong relationship with the Oregon-California Trails Assocation. The Oregon-California Trails Association (a non-profit, 501 (C) (3) Association) is the nation’s largest and most influential organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of overland emigrant trails and the emigrant experience. AHP and OCTA have collaborated on a well-attended event and AHP provided OCTA with a grant to help OCTA digitize about 4,000 trail diaries.
|
New Netherland Institute
AHP has also built a strong relationship with the New Netherland Institute. A grant from AHP will help complete projects to preserve the earliest historical records of the Dutch colony of New Netherland.
|
American Revolution Institute
The mission of the American Revolution Institute is to ensure that all Americans understand and appreciate the legacy of the American Revolution — the event that secured our national independence, established our republic, created our national identity, and articulated ideals of liberty, equality, natural and civil rights, and responsible citizenship that have shaped our nation’s history and will shape the future of the world. Earlier this year, AHP made a grant of $2,500 to fund the work of one of ARI’s 2025 Fellows, Michael Auslin, who will be conducting research in support of his upcoming book on the Declaration of Independence. Says ARI’s Library Director Thomas Lannon, “we are thrilled to receive American Heritage Partners’ support towards ARI’s Library Fellowship program.”

Jamestown Rediscovery
AHP awarded a grant of $2,500 to Virginia-based Jamestown Rediscovery, which for decades has been engaged in archaeological excavations at the site of America’s first permanent English settlement at Jamestown. Jamestown Rediscovery’s efforts have led to the discovery of literally millions of artifacts, which collectively shed light on the life and times of the early settlers who came to Virginia beginning in 1607. Jamestown Rediscovery’s work also includes extensive conservation efforts to preserve and protect these artifacts, and to reconstruct certain of the structures that have been uncovered at the site during its digs. Supporting Jamestown Rediscovery is critically important today, as the James River and environs is increasingly subject to the adverse effects of climate change, and Jamestown itself has become one of the most threatened historic sites in America. “AHP hopes that this grant will encourage others to give,” says AHP President Jay Dickey. “Jamestown Rediscovery’s archaeological work has been massively successful, but it needs further funding to fulfill its goals.” Jamestown Rediscovery’s President Dr. James Horn comments, “I am most grateful for American Heritage Partners for its support of our mission to preserve and protect one of the most important archaeological sites in our nation.”
