Updates From Some of Our

Riverbend-Supported Missionaries

Jake & Jennifer Michels & Family

The Michels are back at Mission Aviation Fellowship headquarters in Nampa, Idaho, to finish up stateside training before leaving in late December for France and language training.

Soon after, they will begin missions work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa.

Jake made a short video to update everyone at Riverbend and provide a glimpse into what's ahead. To view it, click here.

Amiel & Sarah Ayon (in The Philippines)

From Amiel:

Thank you for your faithful partnership and prayers. The Lord is so gracious and kind to us.

The elementary school where my wife Sarah is the administrator has 200 students. The school is the avenue where we can share the gospel to the children and their parents. Every Monday we have a chapel hour. Pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will draw people to Himself unto salvation.

Last month we held a Glories of Christ conference at the seminary, culminating a three-year program. This year we have three graduates. We also have an eight-course Mobile Theological School, with 10 graduates this year. Also, I will be attending the Pastors Conference in Vallejo this month. All of this is only possible through the Lord's provision.

Tan & Kaarin Molina (in Spain)

From Tan:

Thanks, Riverbend, for your faithfulness beyond the generous giving. Our ministry is going well, and that is a blessing. But it also implies more work. As of now, I am the only pastor/elder, and it's going to be so for awhile. I am training nine men on a three-year program, and two are showing elder potential. Please pray for that, as it will allow me to delegate some ministry responsibilities.

Pray for a place to gather permanently. We have been in a hotel conference room for four years. It is a blessing, but we need to rent/buy a place to keep growing. Prices are very high.

Also, pray for me as the father of five boys. As the church and seminary keeps demanding a lot of my time, I don't want to forget my primary responsibility with my family.

Didier & Annie Mukotshi (in the Democratic Republic of the Congo)

From Didier:

Thank you, Riverbend, always for your encouragement. We are doing well despite the complex situation with the Ebola epidemic, which now seems under control. We are safe in Lubumbashi.

Activities in our five churches and the orphanage are progressing well. The children have returned to school, and we pray the Lord grants them good physical and mental health.

Please pray for my 13-year-old son, who has a brain illness. He has an opportunity for treatment in Germany. Pray that he receives a proper diagnosis and the doctors find a way to help him recover.

Alpha Women's Center (in Palm Coast)

Continue to pray for the lives and safety of babies who are being considered for murderous abortion.

Pray that the workers at Alpha will be diligent in their counsel and will be as the Apostle Paul: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel ..." (Romans 1:16).

Also pray for the moms (and dads) who are considering abortion—that the Lord will show them the truth of this heinous sin and bring them to salvation.

A Special Observance

Constitution Day & Citizenship Day recognizes the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and immigrants who have become legal citizens. It is observed on September 17, the day in 1787 when this unique document was signed at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.

It was back in 1911 that Iowa schools had first recognized a Constitution Day. But Louisville, Ohio, which labels itself "Constitution Town," is credited for the turn toward national observance. A resident, Olga Weber, prompted city officials in 1952 to establish a special day. Then the celebration went statewide, and Weber encouraged Congress to get involved. A resolution was passed first, then a Congressional bill was signed into law shortly thereafter by President Dwight Eisenhower.

Citizenship Day for naturalized citizens, which had been in effect since 1940 (third Sunday in May), was eventually merged into Constitution Day. Now they are celebrated jointly. It is not an official federal holiday but is a national observance.

A 2004 modification to the law requires schools to teach about the Constitution on Sept. 17.
