Vacation Bible School Off to a 'Galloping' Start

Nearly 150 kids aged kindergarten thru 5th grade were actively involved in this morning's opening session of one of Riverbend's premier summer events.

Some 75-80 volunteers (bottom photo) led a bevy of group activities over the three-hour session, which was centered on the theme, Jesus—The Perfect Law-Keeper.

VBS will continue through this Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon, on the church campus.

Dorner & Brown 'Scouting' in Honduras

Riverbend Missions Director David Dorner (right, top photo) and fellow Riverbender Dave Brown leave this Wednesday, July 8, on an eight-day "scouting" adventure (through July 16) in Honduras.

They will be working primarily with Missionary Pastor Hernan Sierra (bottom photo, second from left, with a thumb up) in the capital city of Tegucigalpa and determining some mission projects for future trips there by other Riverbenders. Pastor Hernan has preached several times at Riverbend in recent years.

While there, the two Daves will use their law enforcement backgrounds to minister to the police in that city and work in some other venues with Pastor Hernan—men's prayer breakfast, marriage seminar and preaching during worship services. They will also spend a "scouting" day with Pastor Melvin Romero, who is about two hours away in Seguatepeque. Riverbend has ministered with Pastor Melvin and Emmanuel Baptist Church in that city several times.

They were commissioned (second photo) yesterday by church elders.

The home of Ministry Intern Josh Birkedal was the setting for a Christ-centered evening of worship recently for more than 40 youth.

Headed to Guatemala —

• Riverbender Dan Wishnietsky will be making his annual teaching trek to Guatemala during July 16-24. He will have 12 students this year at The Christian College of Ministry, teaching on Hebrew culture in the time of Christ. He will also be speaking at some churches, helping with youth activities and working with some seminary graduates.
